436496 2006-03-07 23:24:00 Is it possible for a faulty mobo to cause issues with installing a Win or Linux OS?
I have a socket A mobo in which all connections etc work well. Recently I have been getting blue screens on brand new installs (Win 98 and 98SE; Ubuntu, FC3). It never used to do this. All other hardware has been checked (RAM, PSU, onboard and PCI grafix).

I also have a mate with a different mobo/CPU who is also having issues with not being able to install any OS

Just want to know before I throw the mobo and sell the CPU

NOTE: brand new install means just that, harddrive repartitioned/ formatted and Win OS installed. Haven't even installed apps (like Office). Ubuntu (Breezy) and FC3 just straight installs

436497 2006-03-07 23:30:00 what sort of errors and when do they happen? tweak'e (69)
436498 2006-03-08 00:34:00 From memory it would blue screen randomly.. usually a virtual system file (*.vxd).
If I did get a win OS running, it would always give me a device manager error (ACPI Bios) even although I had flashed the BIOS way before the errors with the latest update I could find (2001)

Anyway, have just tried booting it up, posts and then starts to install but the PS2 connected keyboard won't respond when it gets to the gui to start the install. Might have another go later, but I seem to be flogging a dead horse
