2006-03-12 07:08:00 | This is starting to do my head in. Just moved back to NZ from Europe. Unpacked the Router to connect it up to the Telecom supplied 302G but I haven't got a clue how to make it work. Do I use PPPoE, PPTP, Static IP, Automatic configuration DHCP, LL2TP or Heartbeat signal Here's a screen shot of the Linksys router. i2.photobucket.com And another couple of the 302G i2.photobucket.com i2.photobucket.com I know the same router is sold in NZ so obviously it does work, just not with a numpy like me  The PC is setup with a static IP address 192.168.1.100, 255.0.0.0 and has the xtra DNS numbers plugged in. I just can't get the router and modem to talk to each other. I've mucked around with IP addresses (as the screenshots show). But I really haven't got a clue. Appreciate some help. :dogeye:

2006-03-12 09:25:00 | Are you sure that the Linksys router is exactly the same as the one sold here in NZ, and will work under NZ's ADSL conditions? Have you tried to update the routers firmware to the newest version from www-nz.linksys.com, as it may help. I have had problems with linksys wifi cards in the past, and I have found that they can be very fiddly to get them to work. | rogerp (6864) | |
2006-03-12 11:00:00 | 90% sure. It's just a matter of knowing the right settings. Got a mate who has the same router, I'll just copy them of his tomorrow I guess. | iwilson (9967) | |

I noticed you have changed the default range of IP's of the d-link they normally have a range of 32 - 10.1.1.1 to 10.1.1.32 - this can be altered as you have, just check you are in the correct range. Check username and password. Check the mask 255.255.255.0 Once you have an internet connection then try to go wireless. |

2006-03-12 21:07:00 | I haven't bothered with the wireless side of things at all  I get the Internet light coming up on the Router but that's about it. Like I said before I doubt there is a difference between this WRT54GS and an otherseas model in this case (but I could be wrong). The firmware on this model has been extensively modified and enhanced it's hugely popular see here http://www.sveasoft.com/ But on there forums there is no mention of PPoA support other than to say it doesn't support it. So I very much doubt that any WRT54GS's support PPoA - therefore there must be another way of configuring the route or modem to work with one another. As I understand it the 302g is a router and modem in one, so perhaps its a case of setting the Linksys up to talk to the 302g router rather than to the modem... Anyway will find out today when I look at my mates router configuration... | iwilson (9967) | |
2006-03-12 21:22:00 | The router should be fine, aslong as its a NZ compatiable modem. The 302g is acutually a router, so just turn off the routing functions in the WRT54gs and just use it as a switch/AP. Ive got a 302G running through a WRT54g here so i know its possible. The settings on the WRT54gs shouldnt matter all the much, as long as its not setup as a DCHP server, use the 302g to assign IP's. And just plug the 302g into one of the switch ports, its a pain to get it to work on the WAN port. If you really want it on the WAN port download the third party firmware and convert the WAN port to a normal switch port. | Pete O'Neil (6584) | |
2006-03-12 22:00:00 | Bingo - plugged it into a lan port and it worked straight away! Thanks Pete I owe you one. | iwilson (9967) | |
2006-03-13 02:39:00 | No probs, just make sure to disable the DCHP server on the WRT54g, having two DCHP servers on one network is a recipe for disaster. | Pete O'Neil (6584) | |
2006-03-13 04:20:00 | Thanks Pete had the DHCP servers on both turned off in anycase. | iwilson (9967) | |
