437527 2006-03-12 03:39:00 Tried to play a LAN game of Civ 4 last night... Norton popped up in the background but I couldn't switch to either Norton or Civ 4, or minimise anything.

Instead of hitting reset I pressed Winkey and by guessing I told the computer to log off... which it did - Only problem is I accidentally loaded outlook express as well (because it's right in the quicklaunch next to start)

So while my computer was logging off I got a brief glimpse of outlook express compacting my emails and then a nasty 'critical stop' sound.

I reloaded OE after logging back on to find half the folders gone and half the ones left to be empty. :stare:

I backed up the .dbx files and tried re-importing them but they just came up empty (even though my inbox.dbx is still 188MB)

I have tried several recovery programs but my inbox.dbx and some others still show up as empty (even though they are quite large)

So am I completely screwed or is there a possibility I can get the emails back? :badpc: :angry

437528 2006-03-12 07:08:00 Have you tried importing your emails into a different email client incase it is Outlook Express that is corrupted and just not the inboxes?

Make sure you are working with copies of your .dbx files and not the originals.

437529 2006-03-12 07:27:00 Tried Thunderbird but it only shows up the emails that outlook sees :annoyed: Agent_24 (57)
437530 2006-03-12 07:35:00 Looks like they are lost forever. I've never liked auto archiving. Greven (91)
437531 2006-03-12 19:22:00 Is there any way to turn auto-archiving off???

and is there a way to make automated backups of the folders incase anything happens??

437532 2006-03-12 20:00:00 Try DBXtract to see if you can extract the emails from the DBX files. FoxyMX (5)
