437452 2006-03-11 05:20:00 I've currently got an ECS L7vta motherboard
with a crappy Duron sitting in it.
I reckon its time for a processor upgrade

THe Chipset - KT400-VT8235
supports up to athlonXP 3000+ @ 333FSB

current Bios Version 6.00PG
Semprons need the latest BIos version of 17j

the version 17j sounds a bit "random" - a difference from 6.00PG (just a note)

my computer's specs (current)

AMD Duron 1.3ghz
ECS L7VTA rev1.0 Motherboard
Veritech DDR400 512MB Ram
ST3600-15A 60gig HDD- seagate
ATi Radeon- R9250L- C3H 128MB

yeah, its time for a new CPU but i just need some recomendations,
of wether to upgrade to An AthlonXP (barton) CPU or a newer Sempron
They all seem to cost the same (amazingly) and my motherboard supports both.

any suggestions would be good
cheers

437453 2006-03-11 07:59:00 Go for the Athlon XP if you can find it.
The Sempron is a cut down version of the A64 and is not as great.

437454 2006-03-11 09:38:00 But isn't the A64 much better than the AXP? So logically, a cut down version of A64 would be equal to, or better than a AXP... I certainly have noticed them to be a bit faster. But I guess it's like comparing apples to oranges in a way.. Neongreen (6358)
437455 2006-03-11 10:11:00 A64 IS better. HOWEVER this is Socket A we're talking about and they didnt make A64's for that :annoyed: bob_doe_nz (92)
437456 2006-03-11 10:43:00 Whoa, I was thinking socket 754, not A :P Neongreen (6358)
