2006-03-11 00:46:00 | from geekzone: Telecom New Zealand Ltd has announced its plans to roll out ADSL2 broadband services to New Zealanders mid-way through 2006 . With speeds of up to 24Mbps (megabits per second), it will eclipse todays consumer broadband speeds of 2Mbps (which are already nearly doubling to 3 . 5Mbps in April 2006) . At time of writing, it is not currently know where the rollout will begin . . geekzone . co . nz/content . asp?contentid=6018" target="_blank">www . geekzone . co . nz ADSL2 has a max . upload speed of 3 . 5Mbps . australian ISP's give about 1000Kbps for an upload speed . That'll still be awesome! I hope they increase the data cap to 20GB or scrap the data cap altogether . Australian ISP's give about a 20GB cap for about $50 I'd like telecom to have a 24Mbps d/l,1000Kbps upload, with a 20GB cap, for $50 . Then a higher plan with a 40GB cap for $60, and a 80GB cap for $70

2006-03-11 00:50:00 | Going by their track record, the caps & upload speed will remain the same | Greven (91) | |
2006-03-11 00:51:00 | I bet when we get 24Mbps we will still have a 10GB cap and 128K upload & it will cost $90 - $100

2006-03-11 01:45:00 | It's not April 1st is it? Probably it is 24Mb/s spread over 12 users so the result is the same. Their exchanges cant keep up with 2Mb/s now so there is not much hope for much more speed as the exchanges are overloaded in places. Not bad where I am but I have seen others with poor rates because so many users on the same exchange. Also I bet the caps stay so even if they put them up to 20GB the cap will be used in no time flat at 24Mb/s especially as more and more people start using VOIP and streaming video.

2006-03-11 21:32:00 | I hope you guys live awfully close to the exchange, i have a feeling ADSL is distance-limited even more than the original. | DangerousDave (697) | |
2006-03-11 22:50:00 | I keep remembering hearing people saying "you need to be no further than 5km from the exchange to get a speed worth having the 2mbps plan" I live somewhere between 4.5-5km from my exchange and I get 1.6-1.9mbps speeds (it varies, average is about 1.75) according to www.testmy.net and a few other speed tests.
