437092 2006-03-10 02:37:00 OK..I know this has probably been hashed out many times, and quite frankly, I did a lot of Googling for the answer...but I never have figgered out HOW to inject this file into WIN98SE.

I have many copies of the file that I got from other sources, but I can't get it to be accepted by the BIOS on the (offending) 'puter...Help?

Is it necessary to re-write the registry? Where do I put it? (no silly answers please) :waughh:

437093 2006-03-10 02:48:00 Wouldn't you just copy it to \WINDOWS\SYSTEM or wherever the rest of the .vxd files normally live? I doubt if there's any registry thing to be set. Any process which needs it will ask for it, and it will be loaded. Graham L (2)
437094 2006-03-10 02:53:00 That's what I thought I did several times....so far no good.....can I get some more details? SurferJoe46 (51)
437095 2006-03-10 02:59:00 I think it would be SYSTEM or SYSTEM32 ... but I'm not sure.

BTW, this has got nothing to do with the hardware BIOS on the computer. It's part of the Microsoft network BIOS extensions. I think I'd try removing the network stuff, rebooting, and installing the network stuff. It might be something rotten in the whatever calls that .vxd ;)

437096 2006-03-10 03:01:00 Thanks Graham . . . I got your answer right at the same time I got the one below . . you are right . . it worked and here's the suggested moves to repair this problem . . again . . thanks! :D

Got an answer from Google . . this time it suggested removing the dial-up network like this:

1 . Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel .
2 . In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs .
3 . Click the Windows Setup tab, and then click Communications .
4 . Click Details, and then click to clear the Dial-Up Networking check box .

NOTE: If you receive the Ndiswan . vxd error message, click to clear the Virtual Private Networking check box only .
5 . Click Close, click OK, then click Apply .
6 . When you are prompted to restart Windows, do so .
7 . Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel .
8 . In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs .
9 . Click the Windows Setup tab, and then click Communications .
10 . Click Details, and then click to select the Dial-Up Networking check box .

NOTE: If you cleared the Virtual Private Networking check box in step 4, click to select it .
11 . Click Close, and then click OK .
12 . If you are prompted to restart Windows, do so .

I guess I made a boo-boo by cutting the install in the middle of file copying and it got the pointers, but not the files . . I willl try to install the network drives again . . . it can't hurt too much . . . . ugh!

BTW: this got the error message removed . . . .

437097 2006-03-10 03:23:00 I guess I made a boo-boo by cutting the install in the middle of file copying... Well, yes. That's one way to look at it. :annoyed: Graham L (2)
437098 2006-03-10 04:33:00 Joe, I have had this problem a number of times, everytime I have installed Win98SE actually, and this is the note I wrote on the last time I did it:

vnetbios.vxd* *associated with dial up adapter(I deleted D.U.A. to get rid of error message).

Make what you can of that, I can't remember. That particular instal is still on my machine and running fine, that was in 26/8/2.
