437581 2006-03-13 06:50:00 iwilson, hi, glad you got it all sorted....Just wondering why you were using the d-link at all, as the linksys isalso an adsl router? I would have used the linksys only!

Edit update, just had a look on linksys web site, is a bit confusing having internet isp details input to a router that doesnt actually connected itself?????
So not sure if dsl modem required or not???? :annoyed:

437582 2006-03-14 01:46:00 The WRT54g is just a router, whereas the 302g is a modem/router. The WRT54g itself isnt capable of connecting to the internet, thats why u need the 302g. Pete O'Neil (6584)
437583 2006-03-14 04:35:00 Okay then, but why the need to enter ISP details if the modem already takes care of that, surely only the gateway IP is required! SolMiester (139)
437584 2006-07-28 01:13:00 The router should be fine, aslong as its a NZ compatiable modem. The 302g is acutually a router, so just turn off the routing functions in the WRT54gs and just use it as a switch/AP. Ive got a 302G running through a WRT54g here so i know its possible. The settings on the WRT54gs shouldnt matter all the much, as long as its not setup as a DCHP server, use the 302g to assign IP's. And just plug the 302g into one of the switch ports, its a pain to get it to work on the WAN port. If you really want it on the WAN port download the third party firmware and convert the WAN port to a normal switch port.

Pete

Both of your solutions are less than best.

The 302G might be a router, but it's a very basic one, whereas the WRT54G, esp with decent firmware like DD-WRT is much more feature rich.

A better solution is to put the 302g into half bridge mode, so that it terminates the PPP connection, but bridges everything else. The advantages are that you don't lose a LAN port, your WRT54G remains a router, and there is no double natting.
