1399051 2015-04-21 06:44:00 Hi Team

I'm using Office 2003 and find it quite adequate for my needs, which primarily are the basics of Word, Publisher, Excel and Outlook. I have no requirement to do anything sophisticated so I have no plans to update Office.

Outlook appears to have archived my Outbox (without asking first) and I presume that it was triggered by the size of the pst file, which I haven't checked for quite some time. My previous version of Office gave me a rev-up whenever it looked like approaching 2GB but the limit for Word 2003 was considerably higher as I recall.

I can go through that archive, plus the current Outlook folders, and delete quite a lot of entries that are no longer relevant, but once finished, is it possible to concatenate the archived and the current file back into one pst folder.

I guess it would be too much to hope for that it would do that automatically?

It would be so much nicer if Outlook had asked first, or had at least warned that a threshhold was fast approaching.

Cheers

1399052 2015-04-21 10:18:00 You should be able to just drag and drop the folders where you want, even between different PST files, however it may take a while if there is a lot of folders/emails. CYaBro (73)

I checked out my Outlook Archive and the current file size is 3.9GB. The last archive was made on 20-12-2011 and was on a different computer at that time. It was made in anticipation of the acquiring of a new computer. I am not seeing any archives relevant to current date(s).

It appears as though Outlook may have created a different class of 'archive' that is lodged within Outlook itself, more in the form of a subfolder to keep the data available directly from the Outlook menu system. I have gone as far as Tools/Options/Other/Autoarchive but to ensure that I don't cock it up, I have stopped short of opening 'Autoarchive' at this stage.

My hope is that there is a 'restore from archive' function awaiting discovery, otherwise I'm in for a bit of trawling every time I want to check an earlier email. It only affects sent items, the Inbox is not affected at all, and still holds the full history, while my outbox only goes back to late January.

Cheers
