1398913 2015-04-20 03:06:00 At the price you couldn't really change much. If memory speed matters getting a dual channel kit might be better but it'll cost more too. I have surplus A4-4000 round here somewhere you could have for $20 + postage cpuboss.com

I replaced it with a cheap 5800K off trademe after a couple months use because it couldn't handle lightbox (which still makes no sense to me). It is the weakest A4 around though.

1398915 2015-04-20 06:56:00 $65.00 1 x PowerCase PN509 420W (Black) Case will be fine, Power Supply included will be rubbish.

What OS will be installed, unless its Linux then you need to add that cost in unless you already have a License for one.

windows build 10049... by the time it expires windows will probably need to be reinstalled anyway.

i have the psu included in that case in my fileserver. the fan is a bit noisy but it should suffice.

my friend in the coming weeks pays me $400 and a bottle of spirits to build him a computer for book-writing and internetting.

he's not overly concerned by the specifics of it all, i have run everything past him though. my drawers of parts will come into play and maybe i can squeeze a mini-ITX mobo/ case into the build.

and im joking about the windows btw, whilst its what i'd do for everyone else, he wants linux.

1398917 2015-04-20 08:48:00 probably too much optimism though, pricespy reckons there are only 4 mITX FM2/+ boards on the market cheapest is $121 from 1 store.

the only readily available one is not cheap at $160 for the Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI

pricespy.co.nz

sure is a nice board though (would make pctek proud). not cheap enough to pair it with a milo ML07 and come in under budget.

im very happy with the original build and have presented it to several friends.

thanks for the very kind offerdugimodo

the only trouble with cheap computers is small is not cheap.

why a laptop HD ?
Just personally, I would stick with a Intel or Samsung SSD, rather than other brands of SSD. Was cost a factor in the choice of the Kingston SSD ?

cost and diminishing returns were factors.

build now looks a tad differently

$65.00 1 x 1 x kingston 60GB ssd (new)
$48.00 1 x 4GB ddr3 1600 (new)
$84.00 1 x silverstone milo ml07 (new)
$129.0 1 x MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 (new)
$33.00 1 x a4-4000 (dugimodo)
$00.00 1 x 450W psu (spare)
$00.00 1 x 750GB hdd 2.5 ( spare)
$??.?? shipping from alphacity

cost has decreased slightly and build quality has gone up.
