1398849 2015-04-18 05:25:00 Hi guys, My Galaxy s2 (old I know) is set up to receive emails I have forwarded from another email account. All works fine unless the computer where the emails are forwarded from goes to sleep or is turned off, then my mobile doesn't receive them either. Is there something I can change in the settings on my phone or PC to change this? The whole point of setting this up is so that I can leave the house when I am on call but still be notified if any important emails come thru to me. If you have any ideas how to fix this can you please give me any instructions in layman's terms as I am not the techy. Thanks :) DakotaNZ (17161)
1398850 2015-04-18 05:52:00 What E-mail provider and how did you forward them? Perhaps you are relying on the PC E-mail client to do the forwarding when you need to log into a web based service and have the forwarding done at the E-mail provider end? Alternatively you could just add the E-mail address to your S2 so it receives them all the time, no forwarding needed. I'm pretty sure the default android email app on an S2 will let you have multiple E-mail accounts and if it doesn't there are tons of free alternatives in the play store. You could even installl a new app and set it up just for the one E-mail account and use it separately from the default app/ E-maill address. The beauty of android is how flexible it can be.

Adding an account should be similar to this www.spark.co.nz

1398851 2015-04-18 09:09:00 Why forward? Setup IMAP which is the protocol for this reason, mail remains on server and you can access it from any device till its deleted.

1398852 2015-04-18 12:26:00 I haven't used IMAP because I have had a few people tell me not to bother because it's a right pain, not really sure why, the did explain but I didn't listen that well lol. As for just adding the email address to my S2 or installing an app to use instead, I tried that but unfortunately the host for that particular email address is not supported by my mobile provider so it wouldn't work unless I changed mobile providers which I'm not wanting to do because I live in an area where Telecom is the most reliable so need to stick with them. 1398853 2015-04-18 21:06:00 ISPs advise against it, but that's to lower their maintenance, save them costs. Most causes against it is based on poor mail server support and not on the protocol itself which is where I believe their issues lies.

It is the protocol to use for this situation and what I've used for years before people had even began to complain about it. I too had your issue over 20 years ago, ain't seen a standard take over its place yet.

Again this mobile provider not supporting host, again does not sound correct. Usually SMTP may not work due to relaying restrictions they use to prevent spam so you either authenticate or you use your mobile providers one. I guess country restrictions could impose issues, but it sounds incorrect still.

I'd try IMAP and try to get mail working on your phone, saves double handling and hoping that your computer is on and active to relay messages.

1398854 2015-04-19 00:27:00 You didn't say what E-mail provider. Most have a web based service and let you set up forwarding rules at their end. For example I used to forward my two xtra E-mail addresses to my Gmail account on the yahoo page login.yahoo.com I'm with Spark(telecom) for my mobile and have it set up with Gmail and 2 .xtra.co.nz addresses on the default app no probelm at all.

I don't forward any more as I use either live mail on the PC or the default E-mail program on my phone and both let me set up multiple accounts. Gmail is IMAP and used by a lot of people. Spark prefer you to use POP3 but also have IMAP settings that work just fine www.spark.co.nz I know ISPs have blocked access to each others Email in the past but is that really still going on? seems petty.

This is 2015, not 1998. What email provider wont support roaming .
Doesnt sound quite right, may be a setup issue .
Who is the email provider & what setting were you using on the ph ?

1398856 2015-04-20 04:00:00 My phone is with Spark and my email is with discountdomains.co.nz and I am using Microsoft Outlook 2010. I have spoken to both Spark and discountdomains, discountdomains told me to call Spark to get the settings and I spoke to 2 people at Spark who both said they don't support discountdomains....I am so confused :( DakotaNZ (17161)
1398857 2015-04-20 04:57:00 I think what they mean is they can't set it up for you because its not their service.

So is this your own domain? Basically you just set it up on your devices all to use IMAP, and you use sparks SMTP on your phone or you use discount domains with password supplied.

It really should be discount helping you but either way it seems neither wants to give you service.

Its nothing to do with spark: your mail is hosted with discountdomains . You just need to correctly set your email on your ph, either pop3 or imap.

Pretty lousy support from discountdomains (hence the name) . get what you paid for ??
