| 1398597 | 2015-04-15 09:50:00 | Its an upgrade that upgrades an existing OS to a newer version. Your current OS will be licensed for one install on one computer. To Quote the Licence Agreement for W7 The software is licensed on a per copy per computer basis. ----- INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. a. One Copy per Computer. You may install one copy of the software on one computer. What can happen is when the new OS looks at what you currently have it will de-activate the current install and activate the New. You "may" be able to install it, but it will be against the licence agreement, esp if the W10 uses the same key. There have been many questions asked about whether the original W7 or W8 /8.1 key will be used, or a new one generated /cross referenced to the original, but so far have not seen a actual REAL answer from MS. If you dont want to upgrade then dont. BUT if you have been doing windows updates there is already a KB that's been installed on your current PC that is related to W10 upgrade offer. If you want to read the license its on the system: Windows folder-System32 folder - en-US folder - Licenses folder |

| 1398601 | 2015-04-15 11:55:00 | The UI is very similar and the learning curve will be very very shallow Your SO will be fine on Win10 Bold statement. Windows 10 is more similar to windows 8 than 7, and the move from 7 to 8 has caused quite a stink. They may have added a start "menu" of sorts back in but it's really nothing like the windows 7 one. Still if most people give it a go for a couple of days it's not that hard to get used to. I wouldn't be predicting that anyone would make the change and not have issues though, even minor changes upset some people. What is amusing me so far is how much people dislike 8 and seem to mostly like 10 which has yet to really look much different to 8 to me. Sure it has a start menu, hit that full screen icon on the top right though and it suddenly seems a lot more like windows 8's start screen that windows 7's menu. They just added a list to the left and let you use it on a smaller scale, not much of a concession really. You can of course enable the actual start screen and have it look exactly like 8, kinda tempting to me actually haven gotten used to it. The final release may be different of course. |

What are some of the others Yesterdays round of updates logged me out of every website I visit that needs a password, weird its never happened before, that's Win7 and Firefox. Also nmercer can you download the Iso and reinstall Win10 from scratch as my Win7 is getting quite slow now? No one else seems to know but since you work for MS you should know. |

I guess by the time 10 get the official release, the public will be used to 8 & its 'quirks' . I see 10 as more of a tweeking of 8, not a new version OS at all . Yep, the old style start menu still isnt really there . MS seem determined to never put it back, no matter what the public want . Was the same with Vista/7 . Vista was perfectly OK once MS fixed the major bugs (SP1) . Vista was hated yet 7 loved . I didnt think there there was all that much difference (apart from Win7 PC's having better/faster hardware), Im sure they didnt completely re-write the OS, just tweaked it a bit . :) No one knows for sure how the 'free' upgrade to Win10 will be rolled out, so nobody knows for sure if Win7 & Win10(free) can both (easily) run on the same PC . Im sure its possible for those willing to put the time in to figure out how to do it, I'd bet it wont be a simple thing to have both after the free upgrade |

| 1398605 | 2015-04-16 00:31:00 | Really don't know what the fuss is about switching to win 10. I would confidently predict that my swmbo, who also is averse to change where computers are concerned, wouldn't be able to notice any difference if I changed her Vista for Win 10. As long as the icons for the progs she uses were back on the taskbar she would just carry on as before! Maybe I should try this as an experiment (making sure I had an image of the Vista install!). And then there are all the multitude of XP users who have bought new computers with Win 8. None of the people I know who have done that had any problems. Sometimes we can jump at shadows. Anyway, to the OP, you will just have to sort this out with your SMBO yourself when the RTM arrives, or take Lawrence's advice. @WT - interesting folder. @gary67 - certainly you can download an ISO. Good place for Win 10 info is here www.tenforums.com |
