2015-04-14 00:20:00 | OK, I'm confused (not an uncommon experience). Those of you who have been paying attention will know that I've been using an old router to set up a second wireless access point. After a lot of messing around it seems to be working - with one exception. My new Samsung smart TV will connect via one access point but not via the other. I should say that the laptop and the phone connect fine through either. On the TV the settings seem to be the same as those on the phone/laptop, apart of course from the IP address, but via the "main" access point it connects fine and via the other one can't even reach the network let alone the internet. I've seen other forums that talk about Samsung connectivity problems, but none seem to cover this case. Any ideas?

Does the TV actually See both. For the sake of less confusion, may pay to identify which Access point is which, Suggestion, main =1 other =2 :2cents: Which of these best describes the layout top or bottom diagram, And are the two access points physically connected via a Ethernet cable or is the wireless on the 2nd picking up the signal from the main ? 6385 |

2015-04-14 04:29:00 | The top image is the correct one. The "unconnectable" router is much nearer the TV (it is the reason I have been trying to install it), and the signal is much stronger. The TV can see both, but it only connects to the distant one, which has the weaker signal. The two routers are connected via ethernet. I'm tempted to just give up and use the one connection, but my inner geek keeps pushing me to get it sorted. :)

2015-04-14 04:38:00 | As a test, change the closer Access points SSID to something else. Its possible if both have the same SSID, even though they are both showing the TV's not "smart" enough to figure out which is which. The fact that it can connect to the weaker one, and other devices can connect to the 2nd access point means they are both working. OR disable the Wireless on the main Router so only the Access point is working, that way it might get the hint and connect ;) then if it does turn the wireless back on and see if it holds. If it connects OK then that will solve it, if Not then there's some other problem. A lot of networking problems are not a huge problem, its only finding the problem that's a PITA sometimes.

2015-04-14 04:42:00 | They definitely have different SSIDs ("Office" and "Lounge"), but the idea of turning off the wireless on the main router is definitely worth a go. I'll try it right now. | Tony (4941) | |
2015-04-14 04:45:00 | I remember once had a problem setting up a Persons TV, the $#^%*^ thing wouldn't connect, wasn't till it had a Ethernet cable plugged in, and that connected, then after that the wireless worked -- No idea why, but it did. | wainuitech (129) | |
2015-04-14 04:51:00 | Disabled wireless on the "Office" router and it disappeared as an option on the phone, laptop and TV. The phone and laptop connected to "Lounge" OK, but the TV still refused. The graphic and message on the TV says it can't connect to the network, let alone the internet. | Tony (4941) | |
2015-04-14 04:53:00 | It certainly does connect OK via ethernet, and I can try that again. I remember seeing something about that on one of the other forums. | Tony (4941) | |
2015-04-14 05:14:00 | Connected the TV via ethernet and it connected at the speed of light. Went back to wireless and the TV couldn't even see the "Lounge" AP. I had to add it manually, and it wouldn't connect. Then - wait for it - I went back to a wired connection and that couldn't connect either! WTF? Re-enabled wireless on the "Office" AP and that connected OK. | Tony (4941) | |
2015-04-14 05:24:00 | Touchy we thing isn't it :D Have to have a think about it-- Heads in a :waughh::waughh: Just gone from OK got the rest of the weeks worked planned to  Slow down only so many hours in the day. Could always run it from the Ethernet - mines like that, cable from office/Router to lounge to a Switch on SWMBO's desk, back under floor across the room plugged into PC/TV. 100% connection always.
