1386719 2014-10-23 06:42:00 Anyone have experience or know much about bulk selling items on Trade Me? I am looking into bulk selling on TM - possibly with my sister who can provide Womens garments from Asia, which she imports to Aussie for her clothing design business.

1. Does TM provide tools to multi list the same/similar items (e.g. 20 - 500 ) at once?
2. Importantly do they provide data metrics, e.g what people are searching (i.e. search terms). I don't want to list items that may sit on TM for inordinate amounts of time which may attract few visits - since their are so many bulk sellers (it seems sellers from the UK are now present). Currently I use most bids/expired listings and their category stats. But I want more granular micro data stats. So that I can list relevant items to suit what searchers (women clothing searchers specifically) want at the right time...Maybe they allow an API to do that?
3. Are their features only available to regular bulk sellers and/or their sale no.'s or revenue?

Thanks...

Why don't you just set up an online mail order store for women's clothes?

I know that lots of companies use Trademe to sell their various product lines but I would imagine that it would be a fairly labour intensive way to have to load individual garment details and prices for one garment at a time. You would also have to monitor the questions for each individual sale rather than just being able to display multiple garments for the user to browse through.

If you are listing items on Trade Me that you initially bought or acquired for your own personal use, then you won’t be selling them in trade.

Factors that will help determine whether you’re in trade, include if you:
•regularly or habitually offer to sell goods or services online
•make, buy or obtain goods with the intention of selling them

What do I need to do on Trade Me if I’m selling in trade?

If you’re selling items in trade, the law requires that you disclose this to members when you’re selling items on Trade Me. If you don’t, the Commerce Commission can fine you.

That shouldn't be a problem if selling all the products legally :)

1) Yes, you can create "products" on trademe which allow you to re-list the same thing over and over or you can use products as templates to similar but not identical products. TradeMe also allows you to list say 10 of an item at once which will appear as one listing (for example: www.trademe.co.nz)

2) You can export sales metrics to an excel file (or view them online) but I don't believe it contains specifics on views. TradeMe obviously provides you with the number of views each item gets but I don't know if this information is preserved after a sale has been completed (much like how questions, sale price and photos are eventually removed). See: www.trademe.co.nz and www.trademe.co.nz

As a bulk seller you're likely to incur fees for listing large numbers of items (more than 50 a month I believe). See here: www.trademe.co.nz

Might be worth investigating setting up a TradeMe "store", if they store more detailed metrics I imagine they'd be available to those with paid membership.

I believe TradeMe makes general statistics publicly available such as when peak viewership occurs. From memory they recommend having your auctions end at 9pm as that is generally when the most people are browsing TM.

Hope this helps.

If you are going to go to all that trouble get specific user data wouldnt you be better off setting up your own online store and database so that you can design what data you want to collect. That would be much easier I would have thought.

1386727 2014-10-24 07:44:00 Thanks you lot, really useful replies.

WebDev: I have thought of a online store/mini e commerce store or similar. I have researched NZ stores, so a bit of competition, hence SEO work to be done, brand creation, marketing, social engagement, even content blog (one fashion website was loaded with useful blog articles). As Greg alluded, TM has a vast user base. Thus would start from TM first. Thanks for the TM link.

WT: Thanks for that trade tax reference. I wonder then if registered companies are transferring/selling items (assets) on TM as a tax advantage or gain or something?

icow: Certainly helped your reply. Had a good read. Unaware that you could list or allow more than item per listing (like eBay). Maybe a store, or a web store...

I'll probably sell long term as a custom kit (tested a few garments and got a few watchers: selling/Bidding as: Main item (e.g. Dress) + g strings + briefs , + brooches, + waistband, etc) - none (bulk sellers) seem to be doing that much, rather just simple item listings. Yeah probably need store paid membership to have access to search queries/granular metrics, such as dress size, bust size, etc, as I have no idea of what a middle aged NZ woman size is, what, style clothing they wear, if they swap more than once daily, etc.

I think either way you go will involve a reasonable amount of effort on your end either loading the stock images or promoting the product or getting the user data . Just go with what works best for you .

If you want more user data you will need to impliment ways to gather it or pay to have it collected :)

As to middle aged women's dress sizes . . It depends on the woman .
