1386589 2014-10-22 19:48:00 A new fridge thread! I'm sure this one won't be anywhere as good as the last one though sorry. :badfridge:

At home we've got a F&P Frost Free Fridge Freezer. (It's supposed to be frost free anyway) Apparently it's model number F&P-369BNWWWW although I haven't actually checked.

I really don't know the first thing about fridges, but I suspect ours may have a thermostat issue. The freezer seems OK, but the fridge does some odd stuff. One thing - the temperature seems to change quite a bit - some days the beer will almost have ice in it, and other days I'm not sure if it was even in the fridge for that long.

The other thing is in the base of the fridge water seems to pool - but then freezes, then partially melts, then freezes again. See below for the lump of ice I pulled out of it this morning.

This has all sort of come to a head this morning as the wife was making my lunch, went to pull the vege drawer out, the handle broke off and the vege drawer stayed there, frozen into the base of the fridge.

I made a comment about her being rough on gear, and now appear to be in danger of making my own lunches from now on.

Could this be a thermostat issue? Something else? Is it economical to repair? Bearing in mind I only paid like $200 for the fridge, but it has a working butter conditioner, so that is a pretty big plus...

Any thoughts appreciated!

1386591 2014-10-22 19:58:00 Whoops, pushed the wrong button! Is there a service centre near you? Usually it is a faulty thermostat as you suggested. A service centre could give you an indication of cost. Bryan (147)

Beware this doesn't happen to your beer . You're welcome to store the beer in my fridge just to make certain it doesn't happen . For a small fee, naturally ;)

1386593 2014-10-22 21:31:00 Have you checked the drain? Somewhere at the back there is a funnel shaped plastic fitting which plugs into a drain down to a tray under the fridge, where the water evaporates. If the drain is blocked the water collects in the bottom, and as that is the coldest part it freezes.
Another thing to try is, switch it off at the wall first to avoid overloading the starter capacitor, then twiddle the thermostat knob backwards and forwards several times, there could be some dirt on the contacts. If this doesn't work it is probably a faulty Thermostat.

1386594 2014-10-22 21:57:00 Yep the drain which is situated on the butter box level at the back behind a removable plastic panel ,it will frozen up with ice

Have a similar model but the freezer section is on the top

Remove every thing in the fridge turn off with the door open for about 15/20 minutes, through some towels in the bottom an pour some warm water from a jug slowly around the drain hole to un freeze,I also use a piece of wire to push the remaining ice plug out

This has happened a couple of times over a few years

Unblock the drain - and it could well be the small hoses that connect to that, stick something thin and flexible through it.
Does it cool properly?
If not and the hoses/drainage has been cleared then it's more major.

1386596 2014-10-23 00:52:00 Thanks heaps everyone - will have to check a few things tonight, firstly the drain, and go from there.

The temp adjustment definitely does work - to a point. Like if it's cranked right up everything will just about freeze, but it doesn't seem to stay at a stable temperature no matter where it's set, if that makes sense. But I can live with a little temp fluctuation, the water issue not so much.

Wal - you're generous offer of looking after my beer is appreciated, but I must say I'm a little hesitant to accept it...logistically cracking a cold one could become quite difficult.

I'm sure the storage of your beers in Wal's fridge would be no impediment to his enjoyment of said beers.

From a logistics point of view, I'm sure you could come to some mutual agreement where, when you felt like a beer, you could Skype him (with an appropriate forward notice period, of course) and you could vicariously enjoy the beer by watching him drink it!

Think of the savings to your waistline!!
