1386630 2014-11-06 07:52:00 I had thermostat issues earlier this year. Sadly, at a time when my budget for a 3 month period was seriously stretched.

A new fridge was out of the question coz the cash just wasn't there, and I don't do credit/HP.
A new thermostat looked likely to be 50-100 bucks as a DIY job, but in the meantime I had a fridge/freezer full of stuff turning to muck.

Short term answer was to remove the thermostat and permanently close the circuit to the compressor. It's now turned on and off by a timer switch at the wall plug. 18 On/Off cycles per day has done the trick nicely. Longer and more frequent ON times during active daytime hours, shorter and fewer cycles during the late night/early morning when the doors are not being opened, and the ambient temp is lower.

This has worked so well (months now) that I've abandoned getting a thermostat as an unnecessary step.

Expect I'll have to tweak the timer settings between the summer and winter months.

This unit (F&P also) has been somewhat problematic since new, with it likely there are voids within the walls where the insulating foam has not fully filled the space.
The rear exterior wall used to get a spot icing up, despite being within cm of the radiator coils. It the showed signs of corrosion where the icing was happening.
I shoved a small sheet of polystyrene over the spot, and it's been OK. The reverse is happening with the lower side wall, which runs hot!
Meanwhile, the freezer compartment door also has a big void, so over time air (and moisture, then ice) gets drawn in. Fine until defrosting, when the whole damn door leaks.
I now pull the door apart when defrosting to deal with the ice inside, which would otherwise take hours to melt and drip out.

Won't buy F&P whiteware again!

I got a Mitsubishi fridge/freezer for $584 from Appliance Warehouse in Henderson .
