2015-04-26 12:09:00 | You both correct (read whole thread), I have no issue with mirddes style of guarantee as long as im aware of it. and wainuitech sounds right with the CGA. A bit like water and oil. | dbs (8785) | |
2015-04-26 14:46:00 | as far as i am concerned same socket / similar features is sufficient. if it works it works. just like a car. in theory the computer should always get better with every component replacement, be it from obsolescence or failure. sometimes a lesser combination of parts is required to realize a greater upgrade path. you might have had a relatively highend cpu/motherboard from 5/6 years ago (45nm c2q/1600 ddr3) and your motherboard fails for example. a second hand motherboard with similar features can be up to $250 from ebay. you might be better off with an i3 in a lowendish board reusing both ram and watercooler. now upgrading to i5k/i7k is one upgrade cycle away. CGA - corey's guarantee of awesomeness. rejecting a viable solution makes you the problem. wainuitech didn't cite any examples.

2015-04-26 21:40:00 | So I buy a car from say Ford or Holden, they use brakes from another manufacturer. If said brakes develop a fault do I contact Ford/Holden or the brake manufacturer? I know who I would be contacting as would 99% of the population and it wouldn't be the brake people.

2015-04-26 22:38:00 | it doesnt matter who they contact. i want the people i build computers for to contact me for all their computer problems, not just troubles relating to the computer i built.\ warranty or not. this expectation that i fix it a special way instead of just fixing it is what gets me. fixed is fixed. work-arounds are common in our line of work.

2015-04-26 23:45:00 | Man this is so funny . Sorry to say but your own cowboy law to yourself WILL come crashing down around your ears in the worst possible way if sometime you annoyed takes you to the Disputes Tribunal . Its going to cost you $$$$$ no matter which way you think is OK . wainuitech didn't cite any examples . Errrrr Excuse you I DID . Your theory of upgrading, while true is only changing the subject . Oh well, its its your lose . Personally I'll work within the law .

2015-04-27 00:01:00 | is Wainuitech flirting with me? i suppose we can rebuild the entire computer from scratch using old pars as equity and get something reasonably modern. it might be a sidegrade through time and space yielding huge future upgrade potential. consider how much is spent on warrants and registrations for cars and mopeds. sometimes a computer needs some stuff done to it. Cite specific components.

2015-04-27 02:53:00 | yeah i use my mind powers to make computers. i never build them. | Mirddes (10) | |
2015-04-27 22:36:00 | why do you deliberately ignore the replacement part being bought with the warranty money? heres how it works in real life (from my experience working for various resellers) also, dont expect to get warranty 'money' . You'll get replacement, or a store credit . - motherboard fails . cannot get warranty as you dont have the original box & packaging . Wholesaler/importer says too bad, its the retailer(ie you) who is bound by the CGA, not the importer - motherboard fails after 2 years . that board is no longer available . Retailer doesnt refund, but replaces with a completely different motherboard thats not compatable with the original CPU - major part fails . Importer says send it to us for repair . Waiting on parts for 3 months , the customer is not happy so we have to refund then try & get a refund from the importer - parts get lost by the courier . Importer/supplier says to bad, no refund untill the importer is re-imbursed by the courier . This can take months - Hard drive fails after 3 months . For warranty you get a 'refurbished' hard drive . The 'refurbished' drive is noisey( worn bearings) & obviously worn out/well used . :-)
