Why cant they just put up their bank account details so direct payments can be made ? So much easier for everyone. Not for the recipients - who then have to employ someone at their end to reconcile the sources of payment so they can send receipts. |

The problem in paying by direct debit is when if for some reason there is a dispute over a particular payment say a repair bill where multiple on-site repair calls have been made by a technician but the fault is still not resolved they will just debit your account and good luck with trying to get the money back. This has happened to a friend of mine a number of times over a period of a few years. In the end after many service calls over the years a South African technician found the fault which was corroded wire on the loop of wire from the house to the pole. I had told them many times the fault only happened when the wind blew but it seems no-one physically checked the wire itself, useless idiots. Anyway Compass attempted to charge for all the service calls, hundreds of dollars, luckily the person concerned only paid by cash and not direct debit. After much screaming and swearing over the phone and threats to go to a new I.S.P. they relented and the repair costs were taken off the bill. A small win. With direct debit this would have been impossible and the money would be gone into the corporate coffers. |

You've never previously been able to pay a Telecom bill at a Telecom-branded mobile store, Spark recently added this option (and without removing any of the existing payment options) to try and give more flexibility and people just complain. How has this plonker paid his bill for the last however-many years? | inphinity (7274) | ||

And he could have paid primitively over the counter at NZPost if he really likes going into buildings to pay bills instead of online like normal people. Husband is a bit of a old fart too ....he had a mini-meltdown yesterday as he ran out of wallet cash....never mind the account has money...I said whats wrong with eftpos? Lose your wallet and they steal money, they can't steal it out of the account without the pin.... |

I eventually stopped using folding cash as I hated all the 10c & 20c change I'd get . I'd end up with a stash of 10 & 20c & the only use for them is in the parking meters . |

How people prefer to pay doesn't worry me, but not being able to use Legal Tender has me baffled. :confused: But I know when I was in business Cash was King. :D |

| 1387888 | 2014-11-10 04:51:00 | I still hanker after the old monstrous sized UK 5 pound note. It measured 212 mm x 134 mm, that's why wallets had to be big.................. :) | Terry Porritt (14) | ||
