2014-10-22 21:30:00 | Yes , get used to it. Most Ak'ers have. Would you be willing to have a huge increase in power bills, just to get nearer to 100% reliablity ? If its really that important, buy a generator. "It would cost $500-$600 million for Vector to upgrade each of its 14 substations to achieve reliability above 100 per cent. State-owned Transpower, which provides bulk electricity to Auckland, would have to spend more, he said." Occasional Power cuts have been a fact of life for as long as I remember. It only takes 1 tree falling on power lines or a car hitting a transformer to take out a suburb. Do we have redundancy for that as well ?? , for the 100% reliable supply. No big deal, life goes on, no mass exodus from Ak because of it Power companies are motivated by profit, not reliability of service btw

2014-10-22 23:18:00 | Any power not available to the customers should be diverted to the executive and boardroom chairs. I expect the problems would get more than just an evasive weasel's burst of platitudes. The last cable failures were UK sourced cable too; Lucas? | R2x1 (4628) | |
2014-10-22 23:21:00 | to achieve reliability above 100 per cent  How do they get ABOVE 100%. do they then pay the consumer for using power. 100% is always on :) | wainuitech (129) | |
2014-10-22 23:46:00 | Vector isn't the only lines company in Auckland actually. | pctek (84) | |
2014-10-25 09:18:00 | I've actually had less power cuts then I used to. Often had them in storms, not so much now. | Agent_24 (57) | |
2014-10-25 18:04:00 | The old power cuts used clocks to time the length of the outage. Recognising that most people's clocks are now electric, Vector have thoughtfully arranged things to allow you to time the cuts with a calendar. This will no doubt incur a modest increase in the electricity charges. ;) | R2x1 (4628) | |
2014-10-25 20:47:00 | How do they get ABOVE 100%. do they then pay the consumer for using power. 100% is always on :) Above 100% is defined as always available in "normal" operations but also capable of switching to backups during an "event" to keep the power flowing without interruption.
