437811 2006-03-13 10:16:00 Hi all,

Running Thunderbird 1.0.6 and NAV '04, on Orcon bitstream.

Whenever I try sending an email, I get this (www.imagef1.net.nz) message.

I people will be tempted to reply "don't use NAV", but I'm just keen to find out how to make this message not appear, whilst still scanning outgoing emails. It's not serious, just an added hassle having to click ok every time I send an email.

Cheers all,

roddy

437812 2006-03-13 11:29:00 The link given in the error message tells the story though.

This message happens when your Internet service provider (ISP) uses the Secured Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. Norton AntiVirus email scanning will not work with the SSL protocol. Disable Norton AntiVirus email scanning to stop the message from showing when sending email. For detailed steps, read the section "To turn email scanning off" in Turning on or turning off email scanning in Norton AntiVirus.

Not sure what else you expect in the way of an answer when the program makers are clear as to the reason?

437813 2006-03-13 11:49:00 Heh, thanks for that. Clicking the link takes me to this (www.symantec.com) page, which isn't very helpful at all.

Also, in Thunderbird, for the SMTP settings, I only have "use TLS, if available", checked, not SSL. Not that I know what the difference is. Should I just uncheck TLS? Or is it better to turn off email scanning?

Cheers,
roddy

437814 2006-03-13 17:45:00 TLS is Transport Layer Security, the latest version of SSL.
I had to "research" the problem, as you never posted a clickable link, hence I dot the correct message.
service1.symantec.com

Symantec say turn it off, one can only assume they know their own product well.
I had assumed that you had tried turning off security at your end, I have no idea if Orcon require it for their email.
