| 437818 | 2006-03-12 22:16:00 | I'm about to buy my first SATA drive, onto which I'll be transferring my op sys. 1) Are there any known compatibility issues running both PATA and SATA drives (the PATA will be my backup drive). 2) Any free utilities to "ghost" my existing PATA drive opsys, data, games and apps (on four seperate partitions) to the new SATA drive, so that I don't have to reinstall everything? Thanks. |

They work fine together. I would say it'll be better if you reinstall XP on the SATA, instead of trying to clone the PATA and then put it on the SATA. Is SATA onboard, or are you going to use a SATA PCI card?? |

Just remember if the PSU doesnt have SATA power adapters, you'll have to buy the SATA molex power adapter/s and connect it to the SATA . Since the cable that comes with a SATA (the cable that connects to the onboard header) is only for data, not the power . |

I shoulda known because it was exactly the problem one of my brothers had when he installed his first SATA drive . |
