437651 2006-03-12 20:45:00 Could someone please explain how to make a backup copy of all my emails in Thunderbird 1.0?

I want to update to the latest version and I've read that updating doesn;t loose any information you have stored, but I've also read a few posts by people where they have had some trouble... So just to be safe, I would like to burn all the mail messages to a cd for safe keeping, incase the update goes wrong.

Also...

When updating do you have to uninstall the previous version before you can run the new install or does the 1.7 install file simply update the 1.0 version?

Thanks very much for any help.

437654 2006-03-13 01:14:00 Great thanks for that link!

I for some reason thought there was a way built into the program to do a mail backup

Does anyone know about the update process? Whether to uninstall the old version first or just to install on top of the old version?

Thanks again.

Are you sure?

I'm currently running version 1.0.2 and I have been reading about people having problems with installing 1.5 over versions older then 1.0.6???

Is it true that my mail, adresses and profile info is kept separate from the Thunderbird directory in the 'Program Files' directory and therefore won't be deleted or changed if I unistall 1.0.2?

I have found the Thunderbird profile directory and have made a backup by simply copying it to another hdd... But I also read that Thunderbird keeps all email's in plain txt form, but I was unable to find any....

I also downloaded the mozbackup program, but is it still in beta???

Any Thunderbird users with expereience have any idea??

Thanks again.

437657 2006-03-13 05:17:00 Use the Mozbackup as linked to above.

Then either install over top or uninstall the old and install the new.

If you did the latter you would run Mozbackup again to restore all your settings.
