438580 2006-03-16 08:22:00 Hello

What do you guys with the new orcon broadband plans?

I have been waiting patiently for the new orcon plans to arrive and felt a little bit uncomfortable joining ihug last month but now I am happy to sigh in relief that the new orcon plans are extremely expensive

orcon.net.nz

I wonder if ihug will come up with something better

$299.95 for 3.5mbps down/512k up 200GB per month.

Man....Who can afford to pay $300 per month?

438581 2006-03-16 09:44:00 200gb sounds like a plan suited more to businesses than a home user. Even heavy users usually only go up to 60 gig on the unlimited plan Greven (91)
438582 2006-03-16 09:45:00 and an increase in the amount of free data you get with each plan.

That sort of marketing bull**** just gets my goat, If your paying for something then in no way is it free, Obviously they are taking the position that people are just too stupid for their own good.

My current plan is increasing to $110, W-t-F x 9 billion, Faster cheaper broadband my pimply arse, hell, 256 download isn't even broadband.

They just lost a customer.Well done.

Think I may just get rid of ADSL completely, Sick of getting treated like a chump.

438583 2006-03-16 09:51:00 another Customer lost here. Gone from one of the cheapest to most expensive. Best one I can find is now: www.xnet.co.nz
but connection fee is robbery.

Any better suggestions?

438586 2006-03-16 10:47:00 Is it possible if we can get Seeby or Scott (from Orcon) to come in here and express their views.

I think the changes are outrageous, literally being forced to downgrade (it's not really an upgrade is it?) and accept paying more for less, and by what Scott stated last year just does not add up at all of what you expressed to try and do.

I did not want to see an email saying you were running the service at a loss, you were the first to jump aboard and had already worked out what you were going to do to campaign UBS, and to get an email saying something that I'm believing is completely false and expect people to understand that this was the reason is completely incorrect. So what is the real deal?

The 4th largest NZ ISP and largest 100% NZ Owned ISP, sounds impressive indeed but doesn't seem like you will hold this much longer.

Cheers,

438587 2006-03-16 11:22:00 What I don't understand, is, that if they have signed up to the new UBS plans, wont the data work out cheaper for people who use over 11 Gigs or something like that?

Yet:
Unfortunately, due to changes in our wholesale broadband supply from Telecom, particularly a significant increase in the cost of data travelling through the network, we are now no longer able to offer the 256Kbps Unlimited plan at the current price .

If it's cheaper for people using over 11 Gigs, and most people on that plan do over 11 Gigs, then surely it would end up cheaper??

Heh, I cant understand their reasoning . But it is their choice, they gave at least 30 days notice, as per their T's+C's, so can't really complain .

It's a shame - Xnet had free connection up til last Friday - 10th March .

Still, you get free national traffic, their entry-level cap is 5 x what Xtra are proposing on their entry-level plan, and you don't have to sign up for their tolls - can't be more reasonable than that .

438589 2006-03-16 20:09:00 Hmm dammit... Orcon were top of the list as a replacement for my current ISP (Xtra) when it runs out later this year. Looking at those new plans, I would do better staying with Xtra.

Still not going to consider ihug though... might have to <grudgingly> check out some of the lil minnows

But then, June is still a few months away, maybe Orcon might realise what they are doing by then.
