439130 2006-03-19 00:23:00 I am very seriously thinking of buying an external hard drive purely to mirror my single PC hard disk. Looking at getting an Iomega external hard drive 160GB.
I was decided upon Acronis (rather than Norton Ghost), however reading Iomega reviews it appears that I might not even need Acronis. Seems that the Iomega software that comes with the hard drive will do the mirroring quite easily for me.

Has anyone had experience of software with hard drives doing the imaging, particularly Iomega ?

I have Windows XP -- and 2.2 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64. Hard disk at this stage is only 40Gb. Later intend to get a laptop so the 160 Gb external would enable me to back that up plus if I later get second hard drive in our PC.

I have been spending quite a few hours on researching and started to get keen on Seagate onebutton backup external drive.....until I read the reviews by individuals on C/Net and Amazon. There were lots of reviews and the majority by far were unfavourable. I think the average ratings given were 3.5/10.
A significant number had lost their data, after the drives failed. It seems that the onebutton Seagates not that good ...however, in general, I understand that their drives have got a good reputation. In fact I have a Seagate hard drive in my PC and it has been fine for the past year.

The Western digital seem to have a better reputation for the external hard drives - onebutton. Have not researched the Maxtor --- must do that !
thanks
