439124 2006-03-18 23:43:00 Hi
:help:
I have a computer here running WinMe that has all its .dat files changed to open with kodac imagining. Is this going to cause problems do you think.
Cheers

439125 2006-03-18 23:49:00 Shouldn't think so. But you can un-associate it if you want from that application by going into Folder Options/File Types or change it to something like Notepad. Greg (193)
439126 2006-03-18 23:50:00 Considering user.dat and system.dat are the 2 files that make up your registry, Yes they will cause major issues if accidentally opened and edited.
Though Im not sure how a kodac app would do this.

no worries about changing anything as they will not open in that app but it gave me a surprise to see the kodac icon combined with .dat and I wondered if it would have any effect.

Thanks for the quick replies - this machine is giving me lots of headaches.

439128 2006-03-19 00:47:00 If the files themselves are .dat then I wouldn't worry. IIRC the only files that would change the registry are .key (executable registry files) Myth (110)
439129 2006-03-19 01:53:00 Well everything seems to be running okay - fingers crossed here that something else doesn't crop up. My biggest headache seems to have been caused by EZ Amour antivirus - not the first I have had this kind of headache I think :annoyed:
Thanks again team - you're tops
Cheers
