| 438997 | 2006-03-18 07:42:00 | Hi all I am just wondering if anybody has a recommendation for a decent modem/router as I want to hook two PC's up to share an adsl connection. I was gonna just chuck a crossover cable between my PC (with an existing internal ADSL modem) and the second PC but as I understand it from your replies that would mean that my PC would have to be on 24/7 so the other PC could access the net at any time, which I don't want. So from what I understand I need a modem/router to enable one or the other PC to access the net if the other one is off (if that mokes sense). Anyway - feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but any recommendations would be gratefully accepted. Thanks for taking the time to read this. :D |

If you bought one with 4 ports, then you could connect 4 computers. If you bought one with only one port, then you would need a multiport ethernet switch to connect to several computers. I only have experience of the Dynalink R220A, a single port router/modem, and I use an 8 port switch. Dynalink is a good make, but there are cheaper ones, D-link for example. |

I have 3 'puters other than this one running on it........and even an old Compaq Presario 98SE, 233/no RAM with a NIC made it on ok too! Ain't that a kick? Somehow 98SE pnp'd itself! :D Just gotta love something that is Joe-Proof! :waughh: |
