| 439097 | 2006-03-19 03:55:00 | Should i worry about the brand?. I wouldn't worry so much about the brand, I would worry about the warranty. You want a good warranty that will be honoured by the manufacturer even if the retailer you purchased from goes belly up. |

| 439099 | 2006-03-20 00:27:00 | I got the cheapest Acer from DSE with the $100 cashback deal. Net cost $989. (The $100 came as a cheque after 3 weeks just as I was giving up hope...) I was after something bog standard, fairly lightweight, no frills for remote desktop stuff when I'm out and about on jobs. There was no WiFi built in but I didn't need it. My Vodafone mobile connect card installed OK and now I can drive and surf. Tried it once only though - worse than using phone and trying to write LOL XP Home is installed and it hooked into my office network with no hassles for updates/file swapping. It burns CDs fine and movies look OK. The batteries flunk out after about 2hrs but I plug in with 12V adapter in car or mains at motel. Shame 3G doesn't run at my ADSL office speed but them's the breaks... |

| 439100 | 2006-03-20 01:27:00 | Maybe Acer's improved their quality, but they had a bad reputation: "Cheapest of the cheap" Toshibas have been very popular for a long time, and it usually easy to find a Toshiba service centre anywhere in the world . A low-end Toshiba should fit within your budget: Toshiba Satellite L20 Notebook . An extended 2 year warranty would add ~$300, still under $1,550, but I'm not sure if the warranty's worth it . |

| 439101 | 2006-03-20 01:34:00 | Maybe Acer's improved their quality, but they had a bad reputation: "Cheapest of the cheap" Most likely because they are manufactured at the ECS factory. But then ECS is improving quality - apparently. maybe they are better now... |
