439384 2006-03-20 11:51:00 The Sweeds are thinking they need faster internet. LOL (www.nzherald.co.nz) Rob99 (151)
439385 2006-03-20 11:52:00 Ouch!!You seem to have a lot of noise on the line 38db?, could be the jake, you do have filter yes!

How about trying another access jake?

They better have!! I'll check when i go there again tomorrow, I gave them a bunch of filters & they have put them on all the phones, maybe they didn't put one on the modem point??

Fingers crossed that's all it is :)

439386 2006-03-21 07:54:00 btw, while you wait heres an NZ based speed test you might like to try.

www.jetstreamgames.co.nz

I get full speed 2011kbps to this NZ speed test, and as expected, I loose on average 300-400kbps travelling to USA.

439387 2006-03-21 08:04:00 Perhaps they did put a filter on the modem jackpoint . That would really hit the speed .

The modem must have all the bandwidth, so it doesn't sit behind a filter .

Phones might misbehave if they got the full bandwidth, and they could load down the high frequencies if they weren''t behind filters .

Hehehe . . . . yeah your right, I was thinking about it today & realised the line filters are only meant for actual phones, the setup at the in laws doesn't have one on the modem .

So yeah . . . . . weve pretty much eliminated everything in the house so i guess it's time to call the ISP & ask them what they can do to sort it .

Just remember that the speed is only a best speed and not what you may get. If you have 50 others sharing the same port at the same time at the exchange you may find your speeds are worse than dial up speeds.
Have a read of the NZ Herald today about some thoughts on it and what Telecom don't have to say about it.

Hmmm....I guess, it's consitantly super slow, I mean my dial up at home was quicker than their broadband. I'll call all the same, maybe something can be done? I'll check out the paper article too.

439391 2006-03-21 10:52:00 i suggest you drop telecom and go wireless :)

my speeds range from from 150 kBs (the speed for my plan) through to 900 kBs
yes that isnt a typo thats 900 kBs . not long ago downloaded a 3 . 66 gig iso file in 1 hour 33 mins .

But happens only when i think they are doing maintenance on the base stations . But hey nice to know that the ability is there to go to those speeds .

Used a link in a prior post to test my bandwidth (and yes i did clear my cache before lol )

Broadband Speed Test Meter

Your line speed is approximately 6176 . 4 Kbps or 756 . 9 K bytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

And where do you think the wireless comes from in most cases?

Besides which many places you can't even get wireless anyway. We would not even have broadband here yet if the council had not subsidised it for us to get Telecom to put the equipment into the exchange.

439393 2006-03-21 20:27:00 Yeah I looked at going Woosh but the only doing it in Wellington, were out Porirua-Plimmerton way. In saying that Im only 2-3 km's from there place and get super speeds.
