439179 2006-03-19 05:23:00 Trying to get an older Win 98 computer connected to the net. Have installed a replacement modem with appropriate driver. System tells me it is working OK but when setting up through Connection Wizard I get message 'Windows can not detect a modem'. Any ideas anyone?

Try going to Control Panel - Modems, see if the modem is there on an appropriate com port, then run Diagnostics to see if it working.

If so, then go to Network, and manually install the dial up adapter and the TCP/IP protocoll etc, do it all manually.

439182 2006-03-19 05:48:00 check controlpanel/device manager to see if a modem is listed it maybe under 'modems' or 'network adaptors'......also if it IS listed the do this........controlpanel/internet options/connection/settings/properties and make sure it lists YOUR modem......if not chekc the drop down arrow at the end of the modem listed to see if it'll bring up yoru modem if it will then clik it into the selection box and clik apply/ok etc........ drcspy (146)
