Bought as a replacement last week. Installed it worked for a few times but now reports No Dial Tone. No matter how many times I have re-installed it, the same result. Phone lines check out OK
Is assigned Com Port 5.
Any clues would be appreciated.
The previous external modem appeared to be damaged by a power surge which also turned off the radio on the same power board. No other damage to computer.

439762 2006-03-22 01:56:00 I would take it back to DSE & get it replaced, try another one. snoopy (74)
439763 2006-03-22 02:12:00 I would get a PCI, or external modem that plugs into a com port, which may cost a bit more. But more reliable than USB modems. Speedy Gonzales (78)
439764 2006-03-22 06:51:00 i would agree...get a serial port modem, much more reliable. however "no dail tone" is often the modem reporting that. you may have a small line fault. did you try turning the modem off/on before trying again? also have you tried with "check for dail tone" turned off ?

have you got a sky decoder pluged into the phone system ?

unplug all phones and try again.

No other damage to computer.

You sure about that? Because they would all have been connected.
I'd try the modem on another PC at another house first to eliminate if it is the modem itself.

439767 2006-03-22 07:26:00 It may also mean that if that USB modem has 2 connections on it, (if this modem is also a voicemodem), you're plugging the phone cable, into the wrong connection. Why it keeps on saying no dialtone. Speedy Gonzales (78)
