439804 2006-03-23 21:32:00 You can't get "access to that", until you have sorted out DHCP or fixed IP addresses. That's what that MS article is about, surely.Aye, but that is already sorted, both sites run DHCP, so IP addressing is not an issue.

Thanks again though

439805 2006-03-23 22:05:00 I'm getting lost with what you want!? . . . LOL

Log into Boring domain when at shop A, with boring\user .

& when at shop B, login to crazy domain with crazy\user profile .

Is that it? . If so no worries,

That is *exactly* what I want to be able to do

if you wish to authenciate to 2 different domains at once, the domains have to have a trust, which was when NT4 was around . Nowadays, their are Forests & Trees & OU . The network administrator who be the only person to with rights to this . Lets not go there .

I'm not sure I've got this clear . . what you are saying here is if I want to login to domain1 and get access to things in domain2 then there needs to be a trust (or the AD equilivent) setup between them .

So . . using the example names from above, you would only need to create a trust if you wished to login as boring\user and access a file server that was only a member of the crazy domain .

So . . seing as I don't want to be able to do this I don't need to worry about getting either crazy or boring to trust the other one?

I cant imaging to separate domains would be on the same NIC, so perhaps you dont want to login to 2 domains at once after all . Ouch my head! :illogical :waughh: Head hurts too . . . I'm not sure what you mean here

Edit: My laptop logs onto my home domain @ home, work domain @ work, and also its own local domain for the administrator account .

This is pretty much what I want to be able to do (subistute home for something else . . but same theory)! Just login with a seperate everything at a seperate location .

I thought this would just be a matter of joining the new domain (crazy), however when I did that I lost my membership of the first one (boring) .

It would be absolutely fantastic if I could get something setup similar to what your described in your edit SolMiester, could you post some instructions on how to do that, or a link to a webpage that explains?

Thanks heaps, you restored my hope, I was begining to think I was only going to be able to login to one of the domains, and would have to get a bunch of nasty work arounds setup to use only one of the profiles .

439806 2006-03-24 01:17:00 Is this a Win 2000 or 2003 domain, win 2k or xp pro, the domains should be present as a drop down list! Joining 1 domain while a member of another shouldnt cause you to lose membership of other unless it is a global policy SolMiester (139)

Joining 1 domain while a member of another shouldnt cause you to lose membership of other unless it is a global policy boring is a win2000 domian, crazy is a samba domain (so should be the same as a NT4 domain), alphie is running winXP pro.

Every time I join alphie to the other domain (by loggin in as alphie\administrator then going to system properties->computer name->change, and changing the domain name) I only get alphie(local computer) and either Boring or Crazy in the drop down box (whichever I joined last). Is there something I am doing wrong in that process?

Thanks again SolMiester

That is the question, sure . .

- The USER can be in as many domains as they want/have available .
- The computer can only be in any one given domain at a time . Now I'm just confused . . so how do you get two domains to appear on that drop down list at the logon screen?
