439985 2006-03-22 23:58:00 why is there only a pcworld forum for NZ? how come there's none for the US?? ...weird!
yeah it certainly is werid. NZ is normally fairly pathetic when it comes to web sites exspecially forums. this one certainly is well above the norm for this country.
all other forums i lurk on are overseas ones as most NZ ones are done in poor formats and noone seems to vist.

439986 2006-03-23 03:44:00 tweak'e ...i was thinking the exact same thing. that 508mhz was kind of pathetic, even for 1.5 yrs ago. i'll have to go check it again (i'm out of town and it's not my computer, so i'll have to check it when i get back).
i right-clicked properties for my computer to get the processor speed, but i'll check again. i assume that's the right place to find it?

i also agree that ebay will probably be my best bet, once i know the model #.

439987 2006-03-23 04:07:00 your proberly better to use something like everest/barlec/sisoft or one of the many proccessor ID apps. tweak'e (69)
439988 2006-03-23 04:34:00 The last laptop I bought has a 700 MHz P3 and 192 MB (with dead battery). Cash Converters couldn't sell it at $499, so I got it at auction for about $300 a couple of years ago :)

Laptops have a low value in the "real" market, sadly.

If the battery is good, it's probably worth a bit more than that. But if you think $600, look at what's available new for just under $1000.

439989 2006-03-23 15:22:00 "mobile AMD Athlon (tm) XP 2800 + 508 MHz" means a 508mhz processor right? tjhsu (10044)
439990 2006-03-23 22:15:00 sure its not "508 meg" or "508MB" ?? tweak'e (69)
439991 2006-03-24 21:48:00 It says
"mobile AMD Athlon (tm) XP 2800 +
508 MHz, 448 MB of RAM"

that seems really pathetic!!! agggg, i feel like it was a rip-off, even back then.

439992 2006-03-25 06:51:00 An AMD XP 2800+ should have a clock speed of 2083 MHz . Because this is a mobile CPU chipset, it may be stepping down to conserve power and this is the 508 MHz figure you are seeing .

If you run this tool ( . cpuid . com/cpuz . php" target="_blank">www . cpuid . com), it will report what you actually have .
