2006-03-25 08:37:00 | I would call Hijackthis the best tool, though only used after a run of Spybot and ad-aware,,and a weeding out of bho's,activex controls, temp/cache files, and items in the system startup. | Metla (12) | |
2006-03-25 09:02:00 | I agree, Hijackthis is where it is at. I give it a quick run through whenever I visit a PC. For wierder stuff, I run rootkit revealer. And then hit 'em with Spybot, Adaware and MS Defender (if necessary). Ewido (not free, but trial version available), is good too. For those loevely spyware who have hit netowrk settings XP TCP/IP Repair (www.xp-smoker.com) You need to use a lot of tools as none are detecting/removing ALL spyware.

2006-03-25 09:07:00 | a-squared free seems to be a searching program, though somewhat slow, and it is also supposed to detect trojans, worms and diallers as well as spyware. www.emsisoft.com SpywareBlaster is another free tool that seems ok: www.javacoolsoftware.com But the only spyware any of these tools like Ad-Aware etc have picked up on my systems have been the odd 'tracking cookies'. Ad-Aware picked up Comet Cursor in the early days when I installed Real Player, but not much if anything since.

2006-03-25 09:22:00 | I usually use Adaware, Spybot, Spysweeper (costs BUT the 30 day trial works a treat), and Microsoft antispyware. I have used hijack to clear homepage hijacks but for those who don't know much it can be a bit confusing. Cheers KiwiMR2

2006-03-25 09:45:00 | What intrigues me is what do people do, where do they go and/or what AV have they, to get all these spywares, trojans, hijacks etc infecting their systems every 5 minutes??? I must say, having been connected online from earlier DOS ftp days, and later www through Win9x and through to XP, nothing has ever got into my systems other than innocuous so-called data miner /tracking cookies.
