440731 2006-03-30 14:47:00 Just noticed that this board is a Hybrid design for upgrade paths to different CPU's etc.

1)- If I were you, I would get out the motherboard manual and go to the web site to download the latest BIOS. Unstablilty may have been resolved with better firmware.
2)- I would check to see if they have any FAQ's or a forum with reference to the issue.
3)- Downloaded the latest chipset drivers.

Ive downloaded the latest BIOS upgrade, but im unaware how to upgrade it onto my system.

Finally, whats a chipset driver, and where would i get it.

Thanks

440732 2006-03-30 15:04:00 i looked up how to install the BIOS, and all it said was to put the BIOS file and ASRFLASH file onto a formatted disk - then boot from it. This seemed pretty straightforward, but i cannot get the disk to boot. When i insert the disk and restart the system, all it says is "searching for bootable disk....ok"
then "please eject disk - press any button to continue". So i cant get it to bot from disk for some reason....and this BIOS thing may be the prob, as im running 2.20 and the most update version is 2.40. If anybody could tell me how to do this, i would appreciate it.

440733 2006-03-30 16:57:00 Check and make sure the type of ram is the same (IE - PC333 - speed of the ram - different speeds will do that) Second, make sure they are installed correctly via the Motherboard Manual (Dual Channel and Single Channel sticks of RAM have to be put in certain DIMM slots) If they are all the same speed, all single channel, and all work, make sure your uncle started on DIMM1 then DIMM2, so on...if you install it DIMM4 DIMM3 and leave 1 and 2 open, it won't work...

As for a power issue of your computer not being able to handle the vcard - that isn't the case, if pwr was an issue, you wouldn't be recieving the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) Is the RAM showing up in your BIOS? (is it doing a RAM test when you turn on the computer) Does it go through it once, then continue to boot? or do you have to hit Escape because it keeps looping the test over and over? These are all signs that your ram is in the wrong slot, or different types of ram...

440734 2006-03-30 21:32:00 If you dont know how to do a bios update then take it to a computer shop as they can get it done while you have a coffee and chill out,oh and get them to update graphics card, sound drivers and os as well and do your ram for you as well. :)

Easy :D

440736 2006-03-31 15:30:00 so i should just take it to my local PC repair shop, and explain to them whats happening. Then ask them to update my BIOS and anything else they can update? I thought that these shops are a bit of a rip off? But, if I cant figure it out 4 myself, then I guess I have no choice! Cheers all! fent (9751)

So are Auto-Mechanic shops...but if you don't know what your doing to a car, what choice do you have?

A BIOS flash is most likely gonna offer a fix to the problem, however if you were to try it yourself, you have to remember - there are two ways it will end...you do it right, and it works, you do it wrong, and you replace your motherboard...

440738 2006-03-31 20:47:00 Before you go racing off and flashing the BIOS (BTW, the issues (www.asrock.com) listed here are the only things a BIOS update will fix), have you considered Graphic card issues? You have swapped the RAM around and the problem remains, but the Graphic card is the other new item. Have you installed the latest drivers for it? Jen (38)

440740 2006-04-01 03:27:00 On the site where you got the BIOS update, it will have a list of the faults that it fixes. If you haven't got any of those actual faults, it is not really a good idea to do the update. ;) Graham L (2)
