440671	2006-03-25 16:12:00	Hi i'm hoping someone/people could help give me a good setup for an awesome gaming computer.I can spend up to about $5200 and where i'd get them from in New Zealand doesn't matter cause i'll search around for prices and best ways of getting the hardware but i would like someone/people to help me out in building a good gaming computer :) . Note: it will need to have some advantages to 3d modelling as well but the only thing to go towards that i guess would be ram but other than that it's mainly for hardcore gaming :D .Thanks! oh and one other thing i don't need to worry about a keyboard cause i've already got myself a Z Board ;) .	3dparadox (10037)

440675	2006-03-26 09:59:00	the 4200 only has the 512kb cache, I'd either get an Opteron for same price with 1mb cache or the x2 4400. Rather than wasting so much money on that secondary heater of a graphics card, I'd work what monitor your getting 1st. Only a 20"+ or wide screen LCD would justify that card. Oh, with the price of RAM so cheaper, you want performance get 4 Gb RAM and use half for a RAM drive and couple with RAID 0+1 for quick access with fault tolerance. 440678	2006-03-26 11:06:00	but 17" is so small these days. get a 8ms or better 19" LCD (Or bigger if you decide you need it). Would a widescreen monitor give you much of an advantage in FPS games? It would probably be usefull in RTS games	Greven (91)
440679	2006-03-27 00:17:00	Last generation cards would be powerful enough for a 17 or 19" LCD at max setting as they have 1280x1024 max resolution. ATI x800 or Nv 6800/7800 and only 1/2 the price of X1900xtx or Nv 7900GTX. The opteron is a server chip, meaning it runs cooler and has better tolerance. Other than that, no different to the X2 cpu. Anymore than 4GB of RAM will probably go unused, until software developer create updated versions. www.microsoft.com With NZ$5,200, "the world is your oyster." (an odd phrase from Shakespeare) Beyond other pieces already covered, I'd consider the Thermaltake TaiChi case; it is very cool case / water-cooled combo.
