441633 2006-03-29 04:52:00 USB Internal Male Header to USB A Plug (www.imagef1.net.nz)

I have a card reader device that has a female USB header cable but I have no spare USB male headers on the motherboard. All the PCI USB cards I can find have a USB A internal socket, not header pins.

I've Googled high & low but I can't find anywhere in NZ that supplies either the above cable or PCI USB card with internal pin headers.

If anyone knows where I could buy either of the above parts I'd be forever grateful.

441634 2006-03-29 05:00:00 Cant say I've seen a connection like that .

Even for a card reader (if this is for an internal USB 2 card reader) .

I would say its meant to be internal, since thats where USB headers are (on a motherboard) .

I use an internal Apacer USB 2 card reader here .

The only thing, I would say that'll have headers on it would be a motherboard .

441635 2006-03-29 05:01:00 Do you use all the installed USB sockets? I'd do the quick and dirty: just unplug one of them, and use its header. :D (Put a bit of tape over the socket, so you don't wonder why it doesn't work in six month's time).

... The only thing, I would say that'll have headers on it would be a motherboard. apart from a PCI card which provides headers for internally mounted USB devices such as this.

All the PCI cards I can find have USB A sockets not header pins . If I could find one that did have internal header pins I could plug the card reader straight into it . The only other alternative is a cable to connect the female header socket to a USB A plug .

You can buy them here ( . frontx . com/cpx508 . html" target="_blank">www . frontx . com) and here ( . performance-pcs . com/catalog/index . php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34_81_250&products_id=1116" target="_blank">www . performance-pcs . com)
but I want to try and get one in NZ .

441637 2006-03-29 05:26:00 Dick Smith USB 2.0 PCI card that I have in this comp, has 3 ext & 1 internal ports. From memory though the int ones are male header pins. Cat number XH6738 Peter H (220)
441638 2006-03-29 05:27:00 Dick Smith (www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/442a0bf70654e5062742c0a87f99068e/Product/View/XH8272) has this multifunction card. It does a lot more than USB, but it does have a set of header pins for the USB.

I'd do the quick and dirty. ;)

441639 2006-03-29 05:29:00 Try Frontx in NZ then (http://www.frontx.co.nz) which is based in CHCH. Speedy Gonzales (78)
441640 2006-03-29 05:31:00 XH 6738 is still in stock -$34.48 Peter H (220)
441641 2006-03-29 05:44:00 XH 6738 is still in stock -$34.48But it has 3 USB sockets on the panel, and one USB socket inside, from what I can see in the picture. No header pins. :( I might be wrong. But the description does not mention header pins ... and that would be a "feature". Graham L (2)
441642 2006-03-29 05:57:00 GL is correct - I thought from memory it had pins, but have just had a look, and it is a socket on the rear edge. Peter H (220)
