441543 2006-03-28 21:49:00 I’ve got a mates computer that pulls up an Error 1933 message whilst trying to install Office .

One of the suggestions from the MS site is to run sfc /scannow .

Fine, except I can’t get it to run? All I get is what looks like a DOS screen flash across and we return to the desktop .

Anyone any suggestions?

XP Home Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

Everything else seems to run fine .

441544 2006-03-28 21:59:00 You may get a better idea of why its not running if you do it from a cmd box.

Start -> Run then type in cmd and hit ok - in the box that appears type your sfc /scannow

441546 2006-03-28 22:12:00 from the same box type net start rpcss

Has some one been shutting down the default services on this machine, perhaps to make it more secure or run faster ?

441548 2006-03-28 22:45:00 About now I'd be thinking about doing a complete reinstall of the OS, might be quicker than trying to repair this hosed OS. gcarmich (10068)
441549 2006-03-28 23:02:00 Right, I’m thinking along those lines too .

However, how do I go about that without having to download and reinstall all the service packs and updates?

The annoying part is everything seems to work perfectly except I can’t install Office 2000 and can’t run sfc . exe .

Is there some way to do an over the top reinstallation with XP? I have done with Win98 SE but am not familiar with XP .

Cheers

Bob

support.microsoft.com

but don't forget to backup the data you want to keep before doing any of this.

441552 2006-03-29 02:46:00 just run a repair install instead of a 'clean' install that should cure any operating system faults.......boot from xp cd then go thru th eprocess as if you are gonna install ......it should give you the option of 'repairing' the existign installation......do that...you wont lose any data/ or anything. drcspy (146)
