441949 2006-03-30 06:09:00 Hi,

This is probably just a silly or stupid question :)

I have a adsl connection from worldnet with 256kbps download and 128kbps upload.

I am connected with Dynalink RTA220 router with the connection speeds of 320kbps download and 160kbps upload in the routers web configuration.

So im wondering is my router connected at 320/160 becuase of plan with worldnet or is it becasue im far away from the exchange or something else.

Thanks :)

441950 2006-03-30 06:26:00 Hi, speed of line is controlled by telecom/xtra user account i believe and the adsl line speed is what the ph number iis enabled for.

So 320 is currently what the line is capable of @ present, but your account is restricted to 256, so thats all you get i'm afraid.

441951 2006-03-30 06:34:00 ok den, for example if i change my plans from 256kbps to 2Mbps plan, so then would i get connection speed of upto 2Mbps?

Ofcourse assuming im not too far from the exchange and so on...

So is there any way to know how far im to the exchange or what adsl speeds can i connect upto ??

441952 2006-03-30 06:50:00 I'm connected at 2560 Kbps on my 2MBit plan (not sure I actually get above 2MBit though, I must check some time). maccrazy (6741)

Telecom are restricting the line speed that your modem is connecting at to your plan speed plus an allowance to cover signalling overheads of their system.

You would have to be approx 4km from the DSLAM before 2M would be borderline.
