442206 2006-03-31 06:05:00 It would seem to me, that IE6 itself has a problem of a sort, because it is only when I try to open things with that or open things that use IE6, but not if I try to use FireFox..

Hi Dia, bit of a long shot, especially as it's a new system/clean install, add to that the system restore issue etc...
In some ways it almost sounds like file associations and what to do with them i.e download/open.
Anyway i also thought of a setting in I.E which could be worth checking, however i am not on an XP system at the moment - but IIRC - Under "Internet Options" - advanced tab, there may be something in there (sorry can't be clearer), just choose the defaults and try that.
But also check the file asscociation for perhaps "Help and Support" and see what is being used?????

442208 2006-03-31 07:51:00 In regards to the registry file Speedy suggested, it did not work.
Restoring IE6 did not work either.
Editing the registry files, as Microsoft suggested, did not work either.

442210 2006-03-31 09:22:00 The irritating thing is, that I uninstalled the Roll Up 2 Update for Media Center (Same as Service Pack), thinking I could get it manually from Microsofts Website.. But noooo... Microsoft tend to make my life way more complicated. I cannot open the Windows Updae page with FireFox either so. Dia (10103)

442214 2006-03-31 18:59:00 Well its newsgroups in OE / Outlook Express, not online .

It'll be somewhere on the MS site .

microsoft . public . windows . mediacenter

Anyone can access these newsgroups .

All you have to find out is what the news server is, your ISP uses to access them .
