441770 2006-03-30 03:13:00 Nod seems to be running ok on mine!!

NOD32 worked fine here too, with 6.1.744.000 of Zonealarm, until I installed 001 of ZA.

441771 2006-03-31 05:05:00 Not all cars have crashes.
The fact that some P Cs work with the latest Zone Alarm update is little comfort to clients.
Called out yesterday to a friend in distress.
Been up and down the ladders with the high speed ISP helpdesk, done the pings, and both verified and also reset the settings.
Incidentally my own machine at home was updated and is o k, but the same download transferred to a flashdrive does not fix the problem on the aforementioned equipment.
Zone Alarm website suspects an unkind attachment from somewhere but 'help' calls cost if you have the 'free' download.
Anyone cracked it yet?
Last resort will be a complete reinstall of XP, ug.

441772 2006-03-31 05:14:00 Well, the last time the previous v of ZA decided not to install, I sent Zonelabs an email. This was the reply. It may or may not work.

01.) Restart your computer

04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
(Recommended)"

the "Show Files" link to view them.

serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start >> Run >> and type regedit. Click on Help >> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
26.) Restart the computer.
27.) Try to install the latest version again.

441773 2006-03-31 10:12:00 for those having the " You probably are missing a necessary root certificate" you might want to try a small thing.....

go to windows updates, select installition history, there is often one about updateing certificates, redownload that one and install. see if that fixes the problem.

441774 2006-03-31 23:38:00 Re item 23.) on Speedy quote does this mean remove all files from the Prefetch folder?, if so read following, or should there have been a list of files only applicable to Zone Alarm

Yup delete everything in this folder, BUT not the folder itself. The files will come back up / be re-created anyway, once u starting running programs.

441776 2006-04-01 10:35:00 The ref states delete all except "layout.ini" and gives some info on problems if this file is deleted. Appreciate the prefetch file will be remade at next opening of a programme. FrankS (257)
441777 2006-04-01 20:42:00 My prefetch folder doesn't have layout . ini in it .

Everything works fine here . I've added the prefetch folder in ccleaner under options / custom .

So, when I click on run cleaner, it deletes whats in the prefetch folder .

Even tho it says old prefetch data under cleaner / windows tab .

The option here definitely didn't delete what was in the prefetch folder . So, I dont know what old prefetch data its talking about!

441778 2006-04-01 23:07:00 Just checked my prefetch folder, does have a layout.ini file plus about 70 prefetch files. Have latest cCleaner which is run daily, it also is ticked for removing old Prefetch Data but folder not in options/custom. At this stage with plenty of hard space available will leave as is. 441779 2006-04-08 02:08:00 Thanks to those who took the time to reply to this thread.

I have now successfully installed Zone Alarm and did it by downloading through Firefox. A simple solution for which I'm most grateful.

Cheers

Paul
