442128 2006-03-30 11:28:00 Ok, got brothers computer to fix as he was looking at "pictures" while wife was away and now has ended up with all sorts on there .

Long story short I unpacked the thing after couriers dropped it off and have installed a new DVD writer and then went to power up .

All I can manage is about 5 seconds worth of running and a single post beep before it turns off again .

All connectors fine, no leaking or bulging caps, disconnected the new drive, reset the bios jumper and all to no avail, still about 5 seconds of running and the off she goes again . Any suggestions?

442129 2006-03-30 11:35:00 Does it display anything on the screen? Try reseating the memory. gcarmich (10068)
442130 2006-03-30 11:37:00 Does the mobo have an ATX 4 pin connection?

Is the connector from the PSU connected, if there's one onboard?

442131 2006-03-30 11:41:00 no 4 pin atx connection on motherboard and I checked and reseated all connections and cards including ram. Nothing displays on screen as it does not power up long enough for that. dipstick01 (445)
442132 2006-03-30 11:42:00 Unplug the new DVD drive, does it work then? SolMiester (139)
442133 2006-03-30 11:43:00 DVD unplugged also makes no difference dipstick01 (445)
442134 2006-03-30 11:44:00 Least its nothing you done then....LOL. Any smell out the back of the PSU?

442135 2006-03-30 11:46:00 Hmm, 2 things arent set to master or slave are they?

Altho, I doubt this would stop it from coming on at all .

Try another PSU maybe?

442136 2006-03-30 11:46:00 Possible short somewhere, perhaps motherboard against the case. Problem with this sort of thing is it could be almost anything from the simple short to perhaps the motherboard being flexed while in transit and now having a crack somewhere. gcarmich (10068)
442137 2006-03-30 11:51:00 checked the master and slave settings, tried powering up with both optical drives disconnected to double check and still the same, I will have to dismantle another unit in the morning to swap power supplies and hopefully that is the problem or I am facing a short or crack in the motherboard as gcarmich said. I might have some luck with trying to claim it under the couriers insurance but..... dipstick01 (445)
