| 442844 | 2006-04-02 02:19:00 | You get 15 minutes to use the "Edit" function . After that the posting stays as it is . ;) I doubt that there's anything effective your brother can do . If the Fiji police catch someone doing another burglary, or are visiting a receiver and they find the laptop, he might be lucky . I suppose in theory that it could be located at a particular IP address if Microsoft had provision for checking the OS registration code against a list of stolen computers during updates . . . ;) But those codes and the checking are for MS's benefit . Some laptops have a slight protection in that only the manufacturer's service centres can reset the hardware password . But to have that protection, you need to have a password set . |

How do you know it was a Cheeky ******. Did your brother see him ? Why didn't your brother have his door locked while he was asleep. What have Hotel management said about this. |

| 442846 | 2006-04-02 21:09:00 | You will only be able to trace it via the internet if there is some sort of tracing mechanism installed in the laptop (software or hardware based) Other than that I'd say you're brother is out of luck . Good luck with an insurance claim if the door was UNLOCKED . Not exactly best practice with expensive equipment laying around . PS: Being of African descent I would ask you to consider the terms you use in reference to other races . . . whilst some of us think nothing of it; it is still a racial slur . . . whether you type the whole word or not is irrelevant as the racial connotations can still be made . Please choose your words carefully and indeed do not assume that it was "non-white" person that has pinched the laptop . . . cheers chiefnz |
