442410 2006-03-31 07:12:00 My brother and I share Telecom Xtra Jetstream Explorer plan on a DSE XH1175 router that we bought a few months ago. The problem is with msn. We get signed out randomly (doesn't depend on net being throttled or not).
It happens occasionally, at least once a day. but sometimes not at all when we are not using it the same time. It seems to happen constantly if we try to chat to each other on msn. right now i have my brother blocked and that seems to fix the problem slightly. anyway. i tried opening the ports at www.portforward.com and changed my IP from dynamic to static (192.168.1.12) i also changed my brothers to (192.168.1.9) i did this by following the instructions on portforward for my router (run command, ipconfig /all, enter information into internet settings)

anywho. it doesn't fix the problem. and maybe made it worse now. Is there anything i can do or am doing wrong. I dont know if i should have my brothers IP as static because if we share the same IP then it should be the same for both of us. but however i think that the ip address that cmd gave me was the lan ip not the internet one. so any ideas? :waughh:

442411 2006-03-31 07:50:00 Sounds like a NAT issue to me. gcarmich (10068)
442412 2006-03-31 09:03:00 thats helpful....... jamesyboi (6579)
442413 2006-03-31 09:22:00 Stands for Network Address Translation - its the mechanism that allow both your PCs to talk to the internet at the same time using a single external IP address. Some routers don't deal well with non standard ports being used. Try setting both the clients to use the HTTP Proxy. gcarmich (10068)
442414 2006-03-31 10:06:00 presuming my brother and i are the clients......what is the http proxy? jamesyboi (6579)
442415 2006-03-31 10:18:00 What the http proxy does is tell the client to use HTTP instead of its own protocol. gcarmich (10068)
