| 1399438 | 2015-04-27 22:40:00 | Does any one know if Server Essentials can be installed as a host running the Hyper V role and the have 1 VM with Server Essentials installed. I read that this can be done (current licence approved) but mixed results if this can only be done using a sysprep process or a build in Wizard. Otherwise I could use the free Hyper V Server. I prefer to VM the working copy as easier to move at a later date. Any one had experience. Cheers |

Haven't had to do this yet myself but from memory there is a bit of a process you need to do to get the base OS installed without all the extra Essentials stuff and the Hyper-V Role. |

Once finished log in as normal. Example, the left Window is Server manager, the right is the dashboard: 6426 Sorry its not to clear its done via remote Desktop I couldn't find Hyper-V Manager, only Hyper-V Connection in the start menu(s). To get the Hyper-V Manager, on the start Screen type "Hyper" (without the "") The manager will show, open it ( pin to start/Taskbar as well if you want) then away you go. |

| 1399442 | 2015-04-28 12:35:00 | Great Thanks. What roles are installed on the host by default after Hyper V installed? From my understanding to keep within the licencing the only role on the host can be Hyper V. | berryb (99) | ||
| 1399443 | 2015-04-28 12:59:00 | Actually I'll ask here. Have a client that has a 5 user site with a quasi-server (Win 7) that is used by a user. Now have a requirement to install SQL Express and add 2 remote users. I am investigating 1- A new Win 7 i7 PC with Raid etc for SQL Express. Have another 2 basic boxes for remote users to access via VPN. 2 - A new Server with VM Server Essentials with SQL Express. Have another 2 basic boxes for remote users to access via VPN. 3- A new Server with Server 2012 Standard 2 VM. One VM AD with SQL Express and one VM Remote Desktop Services. This business is not going to expand greatly over the next 3 years. Budget is limited. I prefer to go with a server solution to improve data redirection and backups but with only 7 users I can manually redirect folders as needed. Thoughts?? |

| 1399445 | 2015-04-29 01:50:00 | SQL Express 2012 is free, is compatible with Win 7 to Server 2012, has a 1Gb memory and 10Gb data limit. I am aware of these and this fits with the software and size of the business. Is there anything else I have missed? |
