I think that if it was taken to court the Police could not prove that their equipment was accurate to that small limit, at the time. I have a Suzuki Swift which reads 3Kph slower on the speedo, and a Honda which reads 5Kph faster. At these small limits tyre size could make all the difference. |

| 1389092 | 2014-11-27 22:43:00 | Saw that on stuff last night. Theres two sides as per usual, some are saying its revenue gathering, and then of course theres " you shouldn't be speeding" both of which is true. While over all road speeds are down, what about people getting frustrated when someones driving along at 70 K in a 100 k holding up traffic ? The cops don't pull them over often - these are the ones that can cause accidents. What about accidents that happen at intersections, some of those wont be caused by speed, they can be caused by people doing stupid things. Then theres people STILL texting while driving. Almost got taken out a couple of days ago by a small truck the driver was busy on the phone texting wasn't watching the road and drifted across the lanes (oncoming) I had to swerve hard to the left as he was half over in my lane <insert swear words> As several said on Stuffs article ( which I cant find now :( ) many people will be watching the speedo instead of the road which will lead to more crashes. |

| 1389095 | 2014-11-27 23:59:00 | Most speeders who are caught doing say 4 kph or less over the speed limit are unintentional law breakers. Various reasons cause them to be over the speed limit for example faulty speedo, going over a bump, travelling downhill or merely unwittingly letting the speed creep up. I can imagine the Police wasting too much time catching motorists who have gone a small margin over the speed limit and allowing the real speedsters to go sailing past because the Police are otherwise occupied. | Bobh (5192) | ||

| 1389099 | 2014-11-28 03:11:00 | The speed limit is a limit, not a target . So 100k is 100k , 50k is 50k :punk But lets not pretend zero tolerance will have any real effect on road carnage . Just how many accidents have been CAUSED by that extra 5k over the limit ?? None . We allow races at high speed on these same roads, The NZ speed record was set on our public roads , so unsafe at 5k over ?? |
