1388167 2014-11-17 03:12:00 Isn’t it amazing how the Government can justify spending $2M+ to send Medical Professionals to Sierra Leone to fight the deadly Ebola virus, (LINK (www.nzherald.co.nz)) but won’t allow entry to the Pike River mine that has been declared safe by world experts?

Personally, I’d rather take my chances in the mine than the squalor of West Africa. :)

1388168 2014-11-17 04:25:00 Personally, if I was going to risk my life, it would be for those that are still alive!...I dont see the double standards myself! SolMiester (139)
1388169 2014-11-17 05:00:00 I think there would be a few organizations around NZ that would benefit from some money being put their way.

Government took its responsibility to these volunteers "very seriously" and would ensure that they had access to medical treatment, including evacuation if required.

Really ? :illogical if any of them got infected there's no "cure" yet, so guess it could be a one way trip or would they be allowed back into NZ, infections and all. ?

Exactly Wainui, the argument revolves around risk of life, and on one hand we have a situation that has been declared Safe by overseas experts, and the other hand we have a situation declared Highly Dangerous by overseas experts, and the Government opts for the dangerous one .

Clearly the Pike River decision is a straight out cover up, but we've covered that previously .

We've heaps of money to attend to West Africa's problem, which happens to be a product of their own environment and impossible to resolve, but none to for our own people . :groan:

Beats me, because I was lead to believe charity began at home . ;)

New Zealand's current spending on Social security and welfare: $27.3 billion (www.treasury.govt.nz)

I'd say our charity spending on New Zealanders is fairly well covered wouldn't you?

And?
No-one is forced to go to Africa.

Pike River....move on now. No point in taking risks to retrieve what exactly?
Why the obsession with wanting bits? Must we scour the planet to retrieve scraps from the bottom of the ocean, tops of mountains etc....when people have accidents?

As for Ebola, bit of a fuss.....yes you need to avoid bodily fluid contact with the infected.
Yes it kills around 50% of victims.

And? The problem with Africa is the people there will not take proper steps to contain it, relatives around the sufferers, protests about isolation and so on....

No one would be forced to enter the mine. Those that wanted to were forbidden. They are just using Safety as an excuse to cover up a huge cock-up.

As for Ebola, I have it in the same receptacle as Aids which was going to destroy the planet, the Y2K bug that was somehow going to make sewerage run up hill, Bird Flu, Swine Flu, Global Warming and all the other disasters that the Media would have us believe.

Like the Black Plague and Bubonic Plague, squalor is a key ingredient with Ebola and there is nothing we can do to change their ways, disappointing as that may be.
