1388569 2014-11-29 03:40:00 Yes

Sorry Peter. I calmed down a bit and did a Factory Reset. Apart from the pain of getting all my apps back to the state they were in before the 'upgrade', everything seems to be working now...

I can now make and receive calls, get and send emails (including the Exchange stuff), send and recieve texts, access Play Store and do everything I should have been able to do immediately after the upgrade...

Well, they certanly appear to have royally f**ked up the upgrade, like Apple.

In terms of new features, I think you'll find Apple normally copies Android ;)

And in terms of Material Design, it doesn't really compare to any of the other two main UI's.

1388574 2014-12-04 03:53:00 Thought I would update this post re Lollipop and my Nexus 7.

I got the Nexus 7 going again and Lollipop is not installed so that is not the reason why it just ceased to work.

It turns out that a Nexus 7 is very simple to dismantle (see uTube for many tutorials) to the point where the battery is available to be recharged, which is what I did.

After about 15 hours of recharging @ about 165mA the battery voltage got to around 4volts (it's a 4000mA/h battery or thereabouts) so I plugged the battery back in and yay the unit started working.

Many people have had success with holding the power button down for more than 30secs but I did not try that. I already had it in pieces before I read that.

The reason for the bricking fault when the battery is run down very low is that at power down the unit cannot shut down completely and hangs. Recharging the battery allows it to shutdown successfully then restart ok again, so they say on the internet.

Anyway my Nexus 7 is working again although it has not updated to Lollipop yet. I thought it was a goner.

1388575 2014-12-04 04:43:00 Video playback issues on the Nexus 7 2013 have been fixed with 5.0.1 update. You can get the OTA file here: www.androidpolice.com and sideload it.

This update probably fixes other bugs too.

Something Android/Samsung hasn't learned how to copy Apple on would be profitability on phones sold and income derived from phone users buying stuff on their phones :)
