| 1389111 | 2014-11-28 08:21:00 | Its about time the speeding culture on NZs roads is stamped out. ...........speeders passing me on other lanes on the NW motorway which has a 80 kph limit. like i had today. traffic was doing 80km/h in 50km/h roadworks and a some cars where overtaking. like 30km/h oveer the limit isn't fast enough for them. they would be doing minimum double the speed limit. forget this 1km over stuff, we have tones of 50 km over the police can go catch. |

| 1389112 | 2014-11-28 18:00:00 | The lower speed limit is partly an excuse to gain more revenue. Saying it All about safety is rubbish and contradictory. Yes. Speed isn't the issue. Coming to a sudden stop is the issue. Actually it is part of the problem.....1km perhaps not, but there are idiots who think they are the best driver in the world and need to show everyone how fast they are. Watched the cop shows lately? There was an old guy who decided to overtake an entire line of cars - he was up to 128km to do so and the cop coming the other way had to take evasive action. He couldn't see why she was picking on him and went on about his defensive driving he'd done etc and the fact that he was just at 128km to get past them all. See? Morons like that.....She gave him a speeding ticket.....which is all she can do, even if the speed wasn't exactly the problem.... |

| 1389114 | 2014-11-28 19:26:00 | The speed limit is a limit, not a target. So 100k is 100k , 50k is 50k :punk But lets not pretend zero tolerance will have any real effect on road carnage. Just how many accidents have been CAUSED by that extra 5k over the limit ?? None. We allow races at high speed on these same roads, The NZ speed record was set on our public roads , so unsafe at 5k over ?? This is a most relevant point. While I cannot disagree with most here, I think the point of the exercise is being missed all too often. 100km is the speed limit, that is, the maximum you should be traveling. It is still ok to travel at 95km/hr which in reality on most roads hardly increases the travel time to any destination unless you are travelling from Ak to Wellington, in which case you might save half an hour if you go 110km/hr. (when you average out going through towns and roadworks etc, your speed is most likely around 80-85km/hr) Having said all that, I tend to go into a daze if I travel too slowly, which is even more dangerous than going 5km's over. |
