1400683 2015-06-15 07:01:00 Chilling: have noticed the old Netcomm router starting to get hot and needs the odd reboot, about once a week...

In the name of highly likely/almost definite upgrade, I just want to confirm a couple of things:
Recommended router is: DrayTek Vigor DV130 ADSL/VDSL Modem Router,VDSL2/A ?
Wireless: TP-Link TL-WR1043ND (v2) ?
Firmware upgrade for Wireless: www.gargoyle-router.com

So the firmware install seems basic enough, what about the actual configuration of the wireless? I have never touched Gargoyle before.

1400684 2015-06-15 08:45:00 The W9980 is probably similar to the one here the W8980. Just updated the fw on it about a mth ago now. Using 3 pc's and a windows phone on 5 ghz

The printer, 2 bluray players and an Xbox are also connected to it. Havent had any probs with it so far

1400685 2015-06-16 10:07:00 Wireless config is easy enough, like dead simple.
The v2 is best hardware-wise for the 1043ND. If you're feeling like you want 5Ghz then go the WDR4300, but the TL-WR1043ND is still fine and I still run that even though I've had a few WDR4300's myself.
Basically, to flash the firmware, just load up the WebUI, hit "Upgrade Firmware", flash the gargoyle-*-factory.bin

You MAY need to rename the firmware file to just "gargoyle.bin" coz it sometimes isn't happy if the filename is too long.

Otherwise, good luck! :D

1400686 2015-06-18 09:35:00 +1 for tplink 1043nd v2 and gargoyle, make sure it is version2 (they look different) as the v1 was good but is limited at faster than 100mbit wan connections.
V2 is alot more powerful and way better wan to lan throughput.

1400687 2015-06-27 06:21:00 Opted to follow Chills advice and went with the DrayTek Vigor DV130 ADSL/VDSL Modem Router,VDSL2/A and TP-Link TL-WR1043ND (v2).
Upgraded firmware to Gargoyle, everything all set up fine.

Did have initial issues trying to do the setup from my Linux computer until I realised that all it needed was a reboot (unusual but easy enough to do). I did most of the setup from SWMBO Win7 comp until I sorted the Linux issue out

Cheers :)

1400688 2015-06-28 02:53:00 Changing of IPs probably, can be done from your shell easily enough but yeah a reboot also works :P Chilling_Silence (9)
