| 1388177 | 2014-11-17 19:53:00 | No one would be forced to enter the mine. Those that wanted to were forbidden. They are just using Safety as an excuse to cover up a huge cock-up. BS . there is no cover up. If it was so safe, those few that survived would have turned around & gone back in. Didnt happen did it. Cover up ?? We all know it was a cock by those running the mine, and lets be honest for once, those working there knew just how unsafe it was . So lets repeat the she'll be right attitude that cost all those lives to start with. The 2nd explosion shows how unsafe it was for re-entry. If it was safe then you could just walk in without any safety gear or breathing gear. It those re-entering had an failure with their breathing gear, they are dead. |

At the time that comment was completely true, but you have to remember that was only a day or so after the first explosion when the filtering system got destroyed. Now they are looking at it , years later - Slight difference. |

| 1388179 | 2014-11-17 20:12:00 | There were those complaining about not being allowed re-entry before the 2nd explosion happened. History proved that decision not to allow re-entry at the time 100% correct . Same applies now. Mine rescuers do & have been killed in rescue/recovery operations |

If it was safe then you could just walk in without any safety gear or breathing gear . It those re-entering had an failure with their breathing gear, they are dead . What absolute rubbish . Lets get a few facts sorted . 1: The problem was the initial explosion had used the Oxygen available for the Miners to breath . 2: The suitably equipped Mines Rescue Team (with breathing gear) wanted to enter the mine and try and get Air and Oxygen to any surviving Miners . 3: They were forbidden by a Policeman that clearly knew as much about Mine Rescue as your good self . 4: The two miners that staggered out were unable to return because they were out of oxygen themselves . Note they were uninjured by the explosion and discharged from hospital the following day . 5: The second explosion took place 5 days later when Oxygen levels had returned to levels to support another explosion, a circumstance that was thoroughly predictable and expected . That was why Time was of the Essence for your chances of saving any Miners . 6: A lot of people dont realise that the first 2 . 3km of entrance is not coal but solid rock and has always said to be still structurally sound from day one . Here is an extract from a report on the mine: The coal is taken from the mine via a 'drift', a gently sloping 5-degree tunnel 2 . 3 km (1 . 4 mi) long . This tunnel has taken large amounts of dynamite to create, as the rock is described as being up to four times harder than concrete . 7: It is in this first 2 . 3km that you would expect to find the bodies of anyone who could have been saved . 8: If for any location to be safe requires you to be able to walk around without use of breathing apparatus then flying in aeroplanes and Scuba Diving must be stopped at once . |

Let's not have one. |

Too late, there has been four I know of and they will keep having them until they control the Oxygen levels, seeing they have no control over the Methane. That was what the Nitrogen generator was there for. However, they have got rid of that to make entry dangerous. But HERE's (www.greystar.co.nz) an interesting article from a recognised expert. |
