1400444 2015-05-11 00:34:00 Hi guys.

Having problem with my wifi signal cutting out.

Gone through all the channels, from 1-11, reset modem and also have 2 wifi adapters, one with an amplified aerial.

Also changed filter.

What I can't do, because of ill health is move the modem, or hook up with earthnet.

(Wife seems to think been happening since we had that big storm, Pam, a few weeks back).

I have the latest, late last year Telecom modem.

Spoken to them heaps.

Latests is replacing the filter and putting on channel 11.

They said will monitor for 24 hours and then look at replacing the modem.

Anyone have any ideas that I haven't already tried?

Told them if they don't sort it will change ISP.

Question is, whom to go to????

I've been with the NZ Post Office/Telecom/Spark for over 45 years and don't really wana change.

Orcon looks okay, but heard a lot of bad press about them.

Thanks for any help,

Ian

1400445 2015-05-11 02:37:00 How did you determine its a wifi issue, and not just dsl dropping ?
Changing ISP is not a fix for your issue. Also, you cannot blame ISP's for your wifi(?) issues.

Wifi issues can be a bugger to resolve, on some sites wifi is just too unreliable to use : interference and/or poor signal (blocked by walls floors etc)
Aree you using any cordless phones, video sender units or wireless security cameras ?
It could also easily be a faulty modem, or a issue with the laptop/PC

Where is the wifi modem in relation the the pc/laptop. Is the modem on the floor or on a table ?
There are options such as powerline wifi kits, but that will only fix certain issues.

1400446 2015-05-11 02:38:00 Only thing I can suggest is to look for any sources of interference. Particularly other devices in the 2.4Ghz range. Cordless devices, phones, etc often use the same band and can cause issues particularly if placed to close to the access point or adapter but sometimes even at some distance. The free supplied routers don't tend to be particularly reliable though and it could just be that. dugimodo (138)

Our modem is across the room, 3-4 mts away, line of sight and about waste hight on table.
Had same cordless phones for a number of years and nothing new.

1400450 2015-05-11 05:43:00 I struggle to see how a filter could affect wi-fi really, usually when they fail they drop the dsl or kill the phone line or both.

If you have a smartphone download the wi-fi analyser app and use it to check signal strength and see if there are other networks nearby. At home I can find up to 9 wi-fi signals depending on where I am in the house (2 are mine) and If I pick channels too close to the stronger ones it reduces my coverage. My router does 5Ghz and that's pretty clear but only my phone can use it.

1400451 2015-05-11 05:59:00 Is it JUST the wifi dropping off (and the internet/dsl LED stays on, on the router) .
or is it the 'internet' dropping off .
How often & for how long ?

does the wifi actually drop off & reconnect ?
are you using windows built in wifi connect app, or some 3rd party app to connect to wifi .
PC or laptop ?
PC/laptop built in wifi , or external via USB dongle ?
whats the approx signal strength of wifi :should be 4 or 5 'bars' . Disconnect via Windows & do a scan of wifi access points to see signal strength.
